Attached is information relating to the City of Fairfield's attempt to require the collection of personal information from every citizen who makes a purchase of ammunition in the City of Fairfield through the adoption of Ordinance Chapter 10E to the City of Fairfield City Code.

On Tuesday May, 5th the City Council discussed this matter as Item 15 on pages 4 & 5 of the attached Meeting Agenda. It was continued to the meeting scheduled for tomorrow evening at 6 P.M. in the Fairfield City Council Chambers. I did not see it listed on tomorrow's agenda, but this doesn't mean it will not be discussed.

I spoke to Darrin Moody (a Fairfield Police Lieutenant who helped write the ordinance) who told me the idea behind this to catch parole offenders who purchase ammunition illegally. He also told me that the other cities in Solano County are waiting on this measure to pass before they bring similiar measures to their respective citites.

An article in Sunday's paper stated Councilmember Catherine Moy is against the proposal. I assume the others all support the measure. I wonder how much influence the unfortunate murder of Councilmember Matt Garcia comes into play on this proposal?

I've attached a couple of links for your reference.

From what I know of Matt Garcia (we are fellow Armijo High School Alumnus, seperated by 18 years), he would not support this, even now.

The city of L.A. has been doing something like that for years. I just wait until I'm out of the city to buy ammo.

Interesting. I buy a lot of ammo through the mail. I wonder how this would apply. Somehow I think our thugs will figure out a way around this.

Fairfield has some interesting notions about law enforcement. Every time I get a hotel there(I'm AF reserve and outside of the commute area, so I stay overnight in a hotel), I have to fill out a slip of paper with all of my contact info, including drivers license and a few other tidbits.

These go back to the PD. Evidently they'll come to your hotel room and give you a room downtown if you're wanted for something.

Indeed, but I end up wherever they put me.
