View Full Version : Best way to engrave a name on a 30-30?

I would like to engrave my grandfather's and my name on a 30-30 and pass it down eventually as a family gun. I was thinking of doing some kinda wood burning on the stock, another relative suggested laser etching on the receiver.
Has anyone done something like this with good results? If so anywhere down in OC that you could suggest?

I had to gift a Ruger Red Label last year and I went to one of those laser engravers who makes desk nameplates and such in Chatsworth -- and damn he did a fine job -- picked out the typeface I wanted, and the machine did it perfectly.
FOr text there's no reason to go to a hand engraver anymore.

Not many real engravers out there any more, it's turning into a real lost art. Last guy i knew of was Lazlo Lukovich but I lost track of him over the years. I'm sure if you do a search you can find someone qualified. If this is going to be an heirloom don't take it to the mall. A good engraver might even let you add more later as funds become available. Kind of like getting tatoos.
