Penal Code section 12285(c)(6) provides an exception for registered assault
weapons or .50 BMG rifles while on publicly owned land if the possession and use
of an assault weapon is specifically permitted by the managing agency of the land.

yes. if BLM sez no AWs, then you can't shoot AWs on BLM land.

My slant was legally posessing a .50 BMG within a contiguous state, with a National forest the overlaps the CA state line.

Don't know if one exists, but if it did, you could bring in a verbotten rifle and legally shoot it in CA.

Note the REGISTERED section. You still have to be on 'DA LIST!' (which is of course now closed for new AW reg and soon to be closed for .50BMG reg.)
