"the suspicious circumstances were quickly determined to be unfounded when they noticed the weapons collection."
Oh CRAP! I better stop walking from my house to my car with my rifle cases! I guess that could be considered a bit suspicious?
"It’s a little unusual to have someone stockpile this type of armory in the home.”

Need more info, but that's kinda sketchy. Unfounded suspicious circumstances turn into confiscating all of his weapons. Now, if he did have an CA illegal rifle and tear gas then it's his own damn fault.
See, bweise is right, don't have illegal stuff around - you never know when the cops might show.
I wonder what the medicla evaluation was, mental?
The article is kinda written, wow, we saw a collection of guns and had to take them. "It’s a little unusual to have someone stockpile this type of armory in the home.” Uh, not really.
And that Marsh Wise seems pretty pissed, eh? Bet he gets a visit from APD.

That's crap. Everyone of us here has an "arsenal" in his house. If there was a real assault weapon found in his house, do you think the only gun they have pictured would still be that blackpowder musket???
Man, I'm sure some of us, if we got our houses raided would be plastered on the front pages of the paper. What's this world coming to???

no kidding! I'd be busted today! I was sorting through all my .308 last night and didn't finish... it's all still sitting on the living room floor waiting for me to get home tonight.
I can imagine a tv camera focused on a pile of ~1000 rds of .308 and a side picture of my glock... you know... those evil plastic guns you can get through a metal detector!

I'm going to have to read up on tear gas... I was under the impresion if fell uder the umbrella for pepper spray.
If the reporter thinks it's unusual to have a large collection maybe he leads a sheltered life.
I bet I'm suspiciousfrom time to time. I bet it's really suspicios when I get ready to go camping (shooting) and I'm filling up the bed of a full sized pickup with cased firearms and full ammo cans and cases of ammo, etc..
I hope this all pans out...

oh... and another thing:
I think if I ever do get busted for "nothing"... and when I get my mug shot... I think I'll smile http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
The guy might be guilty for all I know, but one thing for sure... to the masses who see his picture in the paper... He already looks like a scumbag guilty perv! Kind of how I look when I get up in the morning http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Excerpt from the article: “We definitely got everything,” Robinson said. “He did a lot of buying and selling, some collectibles. It’s a little unusual to have someone stockpile this type of armory in the home.”
Like all you guys said, some of us would fall into that category. Some of us have calibers from a .17HMR to the big .50 (you know, the one that can bring down the Space Shuttle and some satellites). http://www.calguns.net/banghead.gif
Not surprisingly, they did not state what "unregistered assault weapon" Mr. Gramentine had. To the anti-gun bigots, any rifle with a mag hanging off of it is an "assault weapon" to them.
BTW, you can purchase muzzleloaders directly from MidwayUSA. OOOHHHH, isn't that scary to all you anti-gun idiots who are trolling this topic! http://calguns.net/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

It looks like BS, but I will point out that Kalifornia did outlaw possesion of even dewat/dummy hand grenades, several years ago. Many people have them, and don't even know they are in violation.
This really sucks.

When did this happen? one of the managers where I work has a dewat WWII hand grenade on his desk. Maybe he's OK since we're on federal property, but if dewat grenades are illegal, his grenade will have to stay in our building when he retires.

Look at the top of this picture. It looks like 37 or 40mm rounds. If they are just 37mm flares or smoke, fine, but if they are anything other then he will be facing more charges.
I love the letter at the end! Which one of you wrote that?!

For all of you folks who go to the range, it sounds like you have to be careful when transporting back and forth to and from your car when you're back home - don't want to alert the neighbors to any potential "suspicious" activity no matter how legal you are. Just don't draw attention - that is the key thing. SAD SAD SAD.
THANK YOU California.

Turby,
I have nothing that is illegal, nor could be ever construed to be illegal after a glance or two. Sure, I could get arrested. I don't care about arrests, and it'd never make it to trial.
Actually, this would be pretty fun for me 'cuz then I'd enjoy going after the cops & neighbor(s) - it'd be worth spending some $$ to make their lives miserable.
I continue to load long locked rifle cases in & out of my truck in plain view. I don't change my behavior for blissninnies.

Bigmac, You want to look at penal code 12401-12404. Any tear gas weapon other than aerosol spray or that is over 2.5 oz is illegal. So tear gas smoke grenades or the large 9 oz crowd control spray cans will get you into trouble.
Also 12020 allow an exception to the metal pratice grenade ban as follows:
(15) Any plastic toy handgrenade, or any metal military practice
handgrenade or metal replica handgrenade that is a relic, curio,
memorabilia, or display item, that is filled with a permanent inert
substance or that is otherwise permanently altered in a manner that
prevents ready modification for use as a grenade.
Also:
However, a first offense involving any metal military practice
handgrenade or metal replica handgrenade shall be punishable only as
an infraction unless the offender is an active participant in a
criminal street gang as defined in the Street Terrorism and
Enforcement and Prevention Act

and
"Vandenberg military personnel took the explosive devices, which contained an unknown substance..."
Could be way off, but might that "unknown substance" be that permanently inert substance which would make it legal? They're charging him with "making an illegal explosive device" so I could be totally wrong but it would seem a regular tactic of popular media to take a simple little unknown like that and twist into a a drive by switchblading type dealie.
Seems a shame. That's a lot of firearms that aren't coming back. God knows it could be any of us on that chopping block. One more reason to get real friendly with your neighbors. Or one more reason to leave this state.

Bill - I don't mean to tell you how to behave or how you should load or unload your items from your car, but I know for me personally, the lower profile, the better. Legal or not, I just don't need the hassles.

At this point in my life, I can deal with the hassle. I am unmarried, and someone can care for my cat until I bond out.

This is crap! I hate seeing a collection in the hands of the idiots. I bet when they give him his weapons back they are scratched and clawed. Bill you are right stay legal and be proud.
I was loading up my gear for two weeks of deer hunting _ a toyota 4x4, no camper shell, everything in plain sight on a sunny morning, wearing camos and of course the last things I loaded were a couple of rifles in soft cases and one pistol in a locked hard case. I WAS wearing an empty holster... Seems some little old lady observed all this "suspicious activity" and called the local P.D. By the time they got to my home, I was on my way to the hills. I came home a couple of days later to find a police officer's business card on my door asking me to call him at my conveniance. When I contacted him he explained that he had recieved a complaint about the suspicious behavior... and I explained to him that I was a lifelong, licensed hunter and so on. He asked if he could come by and check out my weapons and I told him "not without a search warrant". He didn't like that very much, but when I informed him that I worked for the Dept. of Corrections and that he was welcome to varify this, he calmed down. I thought that this was over and done with, but lo and behold, just about an hour later, while I was doing some further cleaning of my legally taken buck and showing him to a couple of buddies that had dropped by, guess who pulls up? Yep, Mr. J.Q. Law. Seems the same L.O. Lady called to complain about me slaughtering animals in my front yard! When all was said and done, the officer and I had made plans to get together to hunt hogs on a friend of mine's ranch the next week. We had a good time and bagged two decent hogs. Guess where we posed for pictures? Yep-in my front yard! I wonder what the L.O. Lady thought of that? And I wonder how different it might have been if I didn't work for the Dept. of Corrections? Jeez, you think this nosy lady would have noticed my uniform some time in the past eight years... Still don't know who she is or where she lives. That's probably best... Peace and God bless, Wolfsong.

you have no idea what people think they see, and then report. i got a new scope on my 10/22, and showed it to my friends next door to where I worked. it had a 30-rd mag in it.
half an hour later there are police dogs and police searching the building and I get a call asking if we are being robbed. I said no, not that I know of.
I met with the police outside, they told me they received a report of MEN WITH MACHINE GUNS robbing my work.
I (finally) put 2+2 together and told them about my new scope and how I was showing it to my friends. The police asked to see the gun, I showed it to them, they asked me to be more discreet next time.
no sweat.
