So DGM has a sale on their Spingfield 1911 mil-spec for 549+tax+DROS. Is this a good deal for this gun? I've been wanting a 1911 for some time now but in 9mm. However, the 1911 in 9mm is more expensive, but on the other hand, .45 ammo is very hard to come by now.

What do you guys think?

Is that a new in box price? If so that's a really good deal. SA make some really hi quality GI.
Which 9mm 1911 are you taking about. I know SA and Kimber both have 9mm 1911. Although, most 1911 fan are die hard 45, I have not hear a single bad review on any 9mm 1911. Don't know about Kimber, but last time I saw a SA 9mm 1911, it was going for $970+ tax + dros.
Good luck.

$549 is a great price! Couple of months ago, I saw a SA 1911 US GI at Cold War Shooters for $995! Probably in .45 not sure, the price tag made me look away. I still want one and was considering it when they were in the $700-800 range.

Is that the Milspec or the GI? Based on what I've seen recently, it's a good price for the Milspec. The GI has the drawback of not-so-good sights and the smaller ejection port, while the Milspec is more shootable right out of the box.

I got one a few years back when they still came with plastic grips, and it's a great gun for a starter 1911. I put some new grips on mine after the plastic ones broke, dehorned the mag well, and that was it. It's been very reliable and accurate for me. I'd definitely recommend one.

The gun is the .45 mil-spec version and New in box.

I just wish the 1911 9mm is more affordable though.

That's a great deal. A new legit 1911 for under $600!

That is the price for a GI at my local dealer. I would jump on that. A mil spec is exactly what I want.

Well, I went to DGM and apparently, what they had in the ad was for the "G.I. Mil-Spec" version (a version I didn't know about) and not the ordinary "mil-spec" version. In short, they had listed "Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Mil-Spec" for $549 but it was for the GI model.
