View Full Version : Help me dig up some 30-06
I'm trying to find some good deals on 30-06FMJ for my new, well new to my possession, Springfield 1903.
So far everywhere I've looked, for both manufactured and bulk mil-surp, has 30-06 at $1 or more per round after tax/S&H/etc.
Are there better deals to be had? Can you guys help me find some?

Replied to your PM. Im up in the bay area.
yeah, cmp tins of reloadable noncorrosive greek ball are around $80/192 rounds - odcmp.com
I have plans to join an affiliated CMP gun club. That'll make those CMP purchases available. The club only has new member initiation on the first of the month. So I've got some time to wait.
Also the CMP order page says that the current ship time from order date is 100 days!!
That's a good long wait to shoot my gun.
So in the mean time I'm looking for some other sources.
I did find some Partizan 150grn FMJ for only $15.39 a box. Buy 10 or more boxes and get 5% off. Then with S&H and tax included I'm paying only 80c or so a round. That's one of the better deals I've found so far.

Even on gun broker I've not seen deals any cheaper.
Send newcalshooter a PM. He has some left, I think.

Where are you based? If local for FTF, I'll front you part of a can (or sell it to you for the same price CMP charges, shipped) on the premise you'll become active, submit the CMP paperwork, etc. FWIW, the San Jose Zouaves were really helpful when I first started; not sure if that is the group you are looking at or not, but thought I'd point it out. Send me a PM.

Just so you're aware, the Greek doesn't work all that well in 1903 Springfields for some reason, the bolt tends to stick a bit. I was at a vintage rifle match a couple of weeks ago and experienced this personally. Apparently it was a big enough deal at Camp Perry last year that the CMP is going to issue Hornady ammo this year for the Garand/Springfield matches.
If you aren't concerned with getting off 10 aimed shots in 80 seconds, it should be OK. It wasn't overly difficult getting the bolt open, but I had to take the rifle out of my should to do so on the second 5 shots.

The Greek ammo the CMP is currently selling is on 8 rd. Garand clips. You'll have to remove it to use in the Springfield. Not a big deal to do so, but thought you should know.

If you belong to CRPA, _that_ is a CMP affiliated club.
Are you looking to shoot with the Zouaves on the 1st Saturday?
