View Full Version : Questions on Montana guns?
If guns are made in Montana, what would happen if someone bought one and took it over state lines, not for sales, just traveling?
Anyone have any ideas?

Right now, nothing much. The new law up there doesn't take effect until 10/1/2009, and then only for firearms, firearms accessories and ammunition manufactured in Montana after (not on or after) 10/1/2009.
As for what happens if you acquire a "Montana Made" AR-15 clone on 10/2/09 and drive to Some_Other_State with it on 10/3/09, interesting question. You're moving it in interstate commerce at that point, but a quick jog through 18 USC 922 doesn't put much liability on the purchaser/transferee, except where the purchaser is a prohibited person. I haven't looked at all the related provisions, so maybe one of those folks that memorizes this stuff will chime in with the exception that I'm sure I haven't found yet.
