View Full Version : Walmart in San Diego removes ammo from shelves

I went to the Walmart at Clairemont / 805 this afternoon and checked the ammo display case. Almost entirely empty! (Only some 12g shotgun slugs and .22 ammo left.) Asked the sales rep (to remain anonymous) what the deal was. He said that they were told to clear the shelves.
It seems that as long as everyone is cleaning out Walmarts of whatever ammo they manage to stock, it is creating such a headache that management is putting the brakes on. The sales rep "suggested" that everyone just take a month long timeout and not buy ammo they really don't need. That will give the supply chain a chance to catch its breath and bring some normalcy back to the market.
Considering some of the ammo prices we've seen recently, that breather may be just what the market - and gun enthusiast - needs.

You just want everybody else to stop so you can buy it yourself!

A few Walmart did the same thing in OC. It sucks especially punks brag how many tens and thousands of rounds he stocked up and freak the Walmart employee out.

I was able to walk into a gunstore today and find the ammo I wanted! There's no need to panic if you are willing to buy a box of 32-20 @ $50 a box! I know, I could have found it cheaper but, I was there and it's for a gun I picked up yesterday. So, I bit the bullet and paid the price.

LOL WTF, that's the dumbest **** I've heard yet. That's like any business owner saying, "OMG my products sells so well that we can hardly keep it in stock! Let's stop selling it!" WTF are they thinking?

Stop buying so the rep can sell to friends or sell at inflated prices online is more like it.

My guess, They don't display it but I doubt they stopped ordering it. Build up a huge supply and put it on sale on a really big shelf at a higher price than current market and people will panic buy because they have so much of it "in stock".

Exactly what I was going to say. I don't forsee this being a month long hiatus at all, more likely 1-2 weeks so they can build up a stock, followed by price hikes. They figure if everyones desperate for a few weeks, they will buy the ammo as soon as its available, no matter what the price is. I mean, hey the thousands of people stockpiling in this state are making money, why not Wal-Mart right?
I'm so sick of the gouging.

That's funny, I was just at the same Wal Mart this morning and about 100 boxes of assorted calibers, in the 9mm, .40, .45 and .357 variety:cool:

Is that almost exactly what Ten Percent Firearms did, at least with online sales

I noticed they moved Shotgun ammo into the empy space in the glass cases. The reality is empty shelf space is not making money for the store. Since they are likely never going to have fully stocked shelves again, there is no point in leaving the space empty.
I could be wrong, but this makes a lot more sense for a reail store with limited shelf space.

I bought (2) 50 round boxes of .223 Rem and (4) 50 round boxes of Blazer 9mm at Wal-Mart on Aero Drive last night. Young dude behind the counter was a real jerkwad!
Me: Is this ammo on the counter for sale?
Him: Maybe
Me: Huh?
Him: Sometimes
Me: Well, how about now?
Him: Come back in 5 mins.
I was about to get rude when another co-worker came up, I asked for my ammo and he said insincerely, "Please ring this gentleman up."
WTF?
They had about 6-7 boxes of .223 value packs when I left FWIW.
Sheesh, don't take your frustrations out on me, I have a bunch of my own and will return in kind if you wanna be a ***** with me.

I went to a gun store in San Diego to buy ammo today and they wanted $34 for a box of 50 9mm. What a complete flippin joke. They can keep their ammo. Ill find another hobby for now.. Maybe ill get back into shooting when people decide to regain their sanity.
