hey guys,
just bought my first handgun (springfield XD 9mm) I'm not really interested in getting a large cal. like a .45 or something. I just wanted something that I can take to the range and shoot, shoot, shoot, and shoot. I'm thinking of getting more mags, two doesn't seem enough. How many do you guys have for just one gun??
Is 23 bucks the norm on mags for xd? I've been searching and they are 23 everywhere I've seen. anyone know where I can find them cheaper than 20 bucks??
price was: $490 + $25dros + $15 cert + tax
well here it is (yes I know it's on top of a glock pad

45+ mags. Glock mags are the most affordable mags out there. They range from $18-23 depending on where you go.

I had a Springfield XD as well, a great gun. I sold it not because it was bad, but because it's what I do.

I get a gun, mod it. Shoot it, then sell it.

So if you ever want a good trigger and customization, i recommend these guys.........

I tell you they are excellent and do good work.

I would say get a total of 4 mags if its just going to be your range gun for now. The more mags you have, the more ammo you'll burn through really fast, and I mean fast!
When I got my SIG 229 and M&P .40, I thought having more mags was good for practicing mag changes, but I went through so much ammo in an hour. With ammo as scarce is it is now, I recommend loading only two mags with 5 rounds each and practice actual "target" shooting with tight groups rather than just dumping your mags seeing how fast you can hit a target. When I first got my pistols, I used to go through 250 rounds in an hour that didn't amount to much other than just putting rounds through the pipe. Now I go and shoot around 100 rounds per pistol or less with 5 rounds per mag (with two mags per gun) and focus on shot placement.
I'd say get more mags, but its not necessary for the range. Use if for defense maybe and practicing mag changes along with having spares.

I have the same pistol in Bi-Tone. It is great and is my home defense gun for now. I do the same thing at the range loading 5 rounds per mag and shoot for good groups and then tape up the holes and do it again. I found this most helpful. Just shooting a bunch of holes did no good for me or my wallet. I have become a much better shooter in a very short amount of time doing this.
BTW 5 mags for me. Two that came with it, I paid about $24 for one and got two free from the promo SA ran. I keep two loaded with me SD rounds and I can take the other three to the range.

Cool gun. I have the .45 tactical (5"). My mag rule is and has always been a minimum of five mags per gun. Usually more but five is a minimun.:thumbsup:

i feel like i burn through a lot of ammo with my AR and i have 2 mags for that one. May be I will try out two mags at first just so that i dont burn through ammo quick, if I feel like i still need more I'll go out and buy them. thanks for bring this up

good choice and good find! those are hard to come by nowadays especially the 4" version.

i have the .45 tactical version currently, i love it. my friend has the same version as yours, ive shot it and you wont be disappointed.

$23 is a good price for mags, you might be able to find some used ones for sale cheaper (thats what i did). i have 5 mags for my XD .45. i take 3 to the range
and keep 2 loaded with JHP at home so im always prepared.

+1.. every time i take all my mags with me shooting, my trip never lasts long enough....

Congratulations!

You may be able to find 10 round mags cheaper on forums: XDtalk, glocktalk, thehighroad, sigforum, etc...

10 rounders aren't too popular and get sold for cheap by the out of staters.

i find the craigslist community is not very tolerant of any gun related listings. It officially does not allow guns to be listed there but the community usually will flag to death anything related to real firearms too.

Good choice on a first gun.

I usually like having 4-5 mags per pistol. However like others have stated I usually load 5 rounds per mag at the range and only bring two mags per pistol, the extra is just a replacement in case one malfunctions.

As for price, 20+ is a good price for factory mags, ask the HK guys how much their mags cost. If you're lucky you might find folks selling their used mags on the classified sections on the various firearms forums.

I'll try out that 5 rounds per mag habit
seems like a good way to burn through ammo slowly

I have 7 mags for my XD40, 5 for the range (since I usually buy 50rd boxes).
One loaded and ready on my bedstand table, and one loaded and ready in my safe. I also have 3 XD9 mags for my firedragon barrel and will p/u another 2 soon.

About 2 years ago Springfield released XD mag 3 packs that came in a nice black case and came with an extra mag holster, all for $50. These can still be found if you look hard. I bought the last 9mm pack Rettings has just a few months ago.

23 bucks a mag is a good deal most dealers charge 35-50 bucks new for a freaking 10 rounder. If you try out of state vendors that have tons collecting dust or various forums you can get them as low as 10-20 bucks no matter what mag you want.

I usually buy as many mags as I can track down as long as it's a good price.

Some guns I have 8, 10, or 12+ on top of the 2 it came with because the price was to good to pass up. Usually I keep 3-4 mags loaded at all times the rest are for when the SHTF.
