I took out my shotgun to clean last night and noticed a little rust forming on the receiver. I keep my guns as clean as I can but my soft cases are just simple soft ones.

I saw Birchwood casey Coppertect gun cases being advertised. They sounded pretty good and priced not so bad. Thinking about getting ones for my pistol, shotgun, and soon to be here rifle.

Any experiences with these or any other recommendations? Just looking for a durable soft bag/case that would help keep the rust at bay. I'm getting more and more busy these days and would hate to pull out one of my guns to go shoot in a few months to see rust all over it.

Eezox and Bore Stores will keep you happy. Google Eezox salt test and you'll see how well it holds up. I use Eezox primarily as a final coat in the barrel and any other components I don't want to rust. A light application, let set and lightly buff dry will be fine. Bore stores are great and are supposed to help keep rust away. Do not store your guns in the soft foam cases they trap moisture unless you have closed cell foam like the stuff that comes in pelican cases.

So you would apply one or both of these after your cleaning process?

It sounds like you're stuck storing your cases in a closet or something...in that case in addition to your other measures try DampRid. It's a dehumidifier that comes in crystal form and it's pretty inexpensive. They have a large-size one for closets. You can get it at Bed Bath and Beyond. I use the small ones in my safe.

I have the Coppertect case for my handgun.....I've only fired it once and cleaned it...no oil or anything on it..been in there a year..so far..so good...you can also use these...I store my rifles in these bags...nothing bad so far.

I use the Eezox as a final chemical rust protectant. The bore stores are anti rust soft gun cases that also do a very good job of keeping dings and dents from happening. You could also get silicone socks from Miday or Cabelas, or you can get those space age military bags that seal your guns from all moisture.

Thanks for the replies. I read some reviews on the Eezox and it all seems pretty good. But it seems like you have to order it. Usually just use Break Free CLP and a gun cloth from Turners. Think all of that in one of these guys below would be sufficient?

Is this what you have Norcal77 or the ones that are in your link?

Barney G, do you store your guns in a soft case in your closet with those crystals or without a case and just locked?

In the safe, no cases.
