Well guys, going to buy my first handgun this weekend. I have it narrowed down to Sig 226R, Glock 19, or a Springfield XD9. Any input from you guys would be greatly appreciated. Or a list of pros and cons from people who own any of these. Thanks so much guys. Im like a kid the night before christmas, ive been waiting a while now.

It depends on your hand/finger size.

But in all honesty, they're all pretty slim pistols, I would go with the sig.

They are built like TANKS.

I had the chance to handle a 3" XD45 today... I liked the grip except it was a little small for my hands. I'm about to get my first this weekend as well... gonna be an XD-40

I've heard ALOT about the XD and it seems almost everyone loves it that I've heard/seen. I can't give any personal input yet tho :\

G19, by far my favorite pistol to shoot, plus I never worry about it breaking.

The Sig is the most expensive of the line up, but I like the second strike option that the DA/SA gives you. The Glock would be my second choice since my G23 goes bang everytime and is reasonably accurate.

Whatever you decide, use the 10-day waiting period to start stocking up on ammo so you will be able to shoot it when you get home.:)

Sig 226R- Very accurate and reliable full size service grade pistol. Pricey if NIB but CPO is a great deal.

Glock 19- Very reliable and good accuracy in a compact concealable package. "Cheap" to own and maintain. Parts for mods are plentiful.

Springfield XD9- No comment

Glock or XD

I bought a Sig p229 for my first handgun and no regrets so far except for a little cosmetic problem.
But I do warn you that once you make the purchase you're gonna count every second till the 10 day period is over. ;)

Whats your budget and what is the purpose of the gun? You listed compact to full size from 500-900 dollars.

Choice 1 - Sig
Choice 2 - Springfield
Choice 3 - Glock

Thanks for you input guys. To clear some things up. This is going to be for range fun and for home defense. And my budget is 1000. I'd like to stay below if possible but that's what I got. If that helps any. Thanks again guys!

I have shot all of those guns, albeit only the Glock in 9mm; everything else in .40S&W. I can say that as a first gun, the XD is fantastic. It was my first gun, and I had really wanted a Sig p226 like you. I ended up getting an XD-40 4" Service and have no regrets. It's easy to take apart to clean after a range trip and I like the grip safety, on top of the trigger safety. Each one of those guns is built well, and will fire when you pull the trigger, reliably. If you haven't gone to the range to test out all of them yet, it's definitely a must. You may come to find out that one of your favorite pistols, isn't actually the one that feels the "best" to you.

My vote for a first gun goes to the XD. You can make that upgrade to the Sig later. :)

Well I'm going to say it cause someone else is bond to say it... Go to the range and try them all out if you haven't already. From there you can make a choice.

Yeah. I have been to the range and tried them all. Many times. I really love the way the sig feels. The xd is probably second then the glock. So according to that does anyone have an opinion on if a sig is a good first gun? Maintenance wise and things like that?

1st - Glock 19
2nd - Sig P226
3rd - XD9

Sig all the way out of those 3 -

1. Springfield xd
2. Glock 19
3. Sig 226

All of the ones listed are great guns but for your first, you should get something less pricey and spend the rest on ammo for practice. I choose the XD over the Glock because I like a dual safety system over the "safe action" in regards to a striker fired pistol. Not knocking Glock pistols, they're super reliable but I'm more concerned about user error if anything. Which ever way you decide, welcome to the club..:)

you choice has a lot to do with whats in stock thanks to master salesman Barack Obama.

The Sig was my first handgun years ago. It was a great first handgun but once I got into Glocks I stopped using my Sigs. I find I can shoot far more accurately with a Glock than a Sig. Also, I find myself leaving the Sigs at home because I feel they are much more of a chore to clean than a Glock.

I say get the Glock but you still can't go wrong with the Sig (with Hogue grips of course). I'd never even consider the XD though.

i was gonna get an XD but the guy at the gun shop said they are backordered for over a year in every model they make so now isnt the time to buy an xd. they had one in but it was a tactical in poop green in .40 and i want a .45compact

xds are great guns but way too heavy and for some reason alot of people shoot low and left. the trigger break is aliitle too far. i got a glock and i like it alot. i wouldnt mind a sig either.

Add an M&P in there, best ergonomics of all polymer guns I've handled.

My first pistol was a P226, my second was a G19. Looks like were on the same page. No experience with the XD9, but I love both my Sig and Glock, both have been nothing short of perfect as far as reliability.

Either one is a good choice, but the Sig is a fantastic gun :)
