None. I spent an afternoon polishing flash rust off of the barrels on a display case full of Kimbers. First time I've ever seen that on new weapons.

Kimber makes a lot of very nice guns. A lot of them nicer than some of the Springfields. But I'll take a Springfield TRP over ANY Kimber hands down. Cheaper than the Gold Match II also.

There was a thread on another forum that asked what the worst handgun people owned in terms of reliability, and I would say half the people that answered said it was a Kimber of some sort. After reading that I decided I wanted a Sig instead.

The custom TLE II. You get quite a bit there for your money, including night sights, and a 30lpi front strap.

I think the SIS is a neat gun, but I can't see myself paying what it costs.

I have a Kimber custom TLE 2 it is a great gun I changed the plastic mainspring housing with a factory metal one and use wilson mags.I think kimber makes better guns than most springfield armorys because of two piece barrels they use to make springfields.Dan Wesson makes the best production gun IMHO no mim parts or swarts or 80 series safety etc.

+1 because when you get a malfunction you can place blame on the ammo, the magazine, your training, or your wrists. But never ever on your chosen platform.

Plus you can shoot cool youtube videos dropping it out of a Cessna into a pond of angry piranha, running it over with a dune buggy, sticking it inside a turkey while it's roasting and still functioning. Just edit out the part where you put it into a cop's hands.

The only 1911 I've ever had trouble with (including my issue pistol) was a Colt Gold Cup series 70 back in the early 80's. It was without question the worst POS I've ever tried to fire. The LAST STRAW was when the safety/slide lock spring housing assembly fell off the pistol.

Ive seen some so bad, no amount of cleaning would fix em. Had to send em back to kimber.

Kimbers aren't THAT bad, but there are a lot of other brands out there I'd consider before Kimber.

I think there are a good # of smiths who are in that category such that you can't call one of them "best."

Ironically, most of them won't work on Kimbers. :)

Since you did not specify what kind of Kimber, I'm partial to the older, made in Oregon, .22lr rifles. Currently, I only own two Kimber 1911s, but, I feel that they are all about equally made and it's just the different bells, whistles and bling make them different. That said, I like my CDPII Pro a lot. My Classic just sits in the safe.

 That's what we're talking about!

My most accurate handgun I ever had was a Kimber carry II. My gosh would that thing shoot holes into holes at 25 yards. All from a 4" barrel. I do regret selling it since I haven't found a handgun yet that can match it in accuracy.

Define best. Best for whom? Best for what?

So far my Kimber is more reliable than my SA could ever hope to be but the jury is still out until a few more thousand rounds are shot.

My rugers have also been nothing but reliable but the topic is kimber. Funny why some people choose to go off topic and nutswing.

So what is it that Kimber does wrong? I know that you need to go through a 500-1k rd break-in period with a lot of 1911's but why do Kimbers get so much guff? What do they do differently than other 1911 makers in that price range: Springfield, S&W, Colt, Sig, STI, etc?

An early Clack or a series one Gold Combat. Since I own neither, my Series one stainless is best. It goes bang everytime and is carried everyday!

I have a custom tle with a rail and have to say I love this thing , but i do think the finish is pretty weak on it and i do get a little rust on the barrel, but I just look at it as a little character
and besides that my gf would not give it up for the world and I also want to change the plastic main spring housing due to the fact that i have a springfield mil spec with an arch main spring and it just feels better to me

So what's great about Kimber for what they charge? It's not custom, has a bunch of inferior parts (Too much MIM for the price), and the Swartz sp?) safety can cause timing problems that will cause a fail to fire (seen this on a BNIB Kimber)
