I'm switching from a Sig P229 to a Glock 19C. The Sig's heavier and has too many controls for my tastes, and there's more grip height on the 19C, even though it's virtually the same overall height as the P229.

Still, both are fine guns, and I don't prefer one brand over the other, just one model over the other.

Hiya,

A 19 (for me) because:

0) The 19 fits my hand the best out of all the glocks I've handled...
1) I shoot 9mm pretty well...even though I shot a Model 10 *VERY* well (under 2" offhand @ 25yards)
2) 9mm is fairly common worldwide (but hard to get now)...
3) the 19 is a good compromise when it comes to barrel length (and therefore sight radius), conceal-ability, etc....

If I only had 1 glock in my collection, it would be a 19. Hopefully I'll be able to remedy this at some point...

If you want to draw a crowd at your local range, shoot a G29 with Doubletap ammo. It puts a smile on my face each time I shoot it. Most people have never heard of the 10mm or know little about it and what it's capable of. Everyone always asks if they can try it out :)

I just shot my new Glock 19 Wednesday and I must say that is a damn fine weapon also. More accurate than my Sigs and more fun to shoot.

Depends on how big your hands are, if you got pre-ban mags, and if you plan to save money...

Personally, I'd go a Glock 23 if you can handle the recoil and do fast follow up shots. If not, go Glock 19. However, if you got pre-ban mags for either one, then I'd go with that.

Just my opinion, and I have no experience with the Steyr, and I'm sure it's a good gun in its own right....but good lord....what an ugly gun!! :p

Wow. Someone in a Glock thread calling something other than a Glock ugly?

none; a sig is superior to any

Just curious. Why would a Sig fan click on a thread titled "Best Glock hands down" just to post "None; a sig is superior to any?" The question wasn't about Sig vs. Glock.

I own an X5 Comp, and it's a fine weapon, no doubt. You wont find me clicking on "Which Sig is best?" threads and posting, "None; a glock is superior to any."

Which Sig is superior? The DAK models with a 2 pound heavier reset and light primer strikes? The P220's with an extractor problem so bad that Grayguns is making an aftermarket one for reliability? Or the broken take-down levers? The Nitron SS slides chewing up the anodized aluminum frames can't be a good thing right? The Pot Metal Mosquito is awesome. A buddies GSR 1911 took 3 trips to the factory for a fail to fire before he got a full refund... Should I go on?

I never said Glocks were perfect, and Sig has just as many current problems as Glock has had in a few years... My Fathers Bay Area Department had plenty of issues transitioning from Beretta to Sig that it was so ridiculous that it was easier to replace the whole gun then keep sending Sigarms rep to go over a percentage of guns with failures.

IMO this is not the thread to go back and forth over Glock vs. X, but keep in mind that their's plenty of skeletons in every firearm makers closet.

Back on topic.. My Glock 19 has had no failures and has had only 2,000 rounds thru it, my Glock 34 is just under 11,400 rounds and has had 1 fail to feed due to a weak round and wore out ISMI recoil spring at the 6k mark and has been fine since. I even used it for a 1100+ round two day class and it performed fantastic with no malfunctions, and the other 5 Glocks I owned had no malfunctions outside of various aftermarket parts that were removed after the cause was identified.

To be fair, the Mosquito is not manufactured by Sig. It's manufactured by GSG.

And Glocks do have their share of problems. For a long time, Glock 23's would have cycling issues with a light attached, though I have heard this has been corrected recently.

To answer the OP- the best Glock is the one you can hit the target with.

Love my Glock 19. It's about the most perfect all around pistol if you live in a free state and can get normal (let's stop calling them high capacity) capacity magazines. That's 15+1 rounds of 9mm, which, with the right cartridge has plenty of stopping power. Physically, it's big enough for the average person to shoot comfortably and small enough to carry concealed. The design is simple. It goes bang when I pull the trigger. I love it. What I don't love is the 10 round magazines that I'm stuck with.

Because large frame Glocks have significantly more issues.

5" barrel, .45 caliber. Personally I would go with an XD, but Glock is great. I just don't understand why anyone shoots anything smaller for defense. Target shooting is fun at any caliber but to make a hole, .45 would be the smallest caliber for me.

Ah yes, the simplistic view of wound ballistics. I, for one, wouldn't want any gun that creates a hole the size of the projectile.

Bottom line: the performance of all standard handgun calibers is so crappy, that they're all essentially equivalent with modern ammo (9mm, 40S&W, 357, 45acp)

Wow.. hmm.. how should I put this.. I think the best Glock is the model 17 but I like the size of the 19 more. But if I was only given one choice, I would definitely go for something a lil bigger than a 9mm, like a 40sw or 45acp. So a Glock 22 or 21. But again, I like the compact model 23 more, and the 21 is a lil too big for my small hands.

So my vote would have to be for the Glock 23. Good size and an adequate caliber..
