Yo,

I'm a rifle guy, but my brother just bought a SIG P226, and I gotta say, I want one too.

Ive always been a big fan of the COLT 1911 (with conversion kit to .22)

And that's what i'm looking for too...to convert to a .22 whenever ammo becomes scarce.... :chris:

SO what's a good gun for me to buy for my first time, but have around for a long time. (NOTE: i don't like six-shooters....just never have..sorry )

Now, what do my fellow calgunners suggest?

1911s since your a big fan and they do have some good .22lr conversions for them.

P226 is awesome, but only one .22 conversion is available and its been getting mixed reviews.

CZ 75 series of guns have Sig accuracy and reliability as well as having an excellent .22 conversion available.

Glocks, they have tons of after market stuff available for them as well as a few .22 conversion.

You can't go wrong with a Sig.

The 226 was my first.

I love my 220 as well. . . can't beat .45 if you're restricted to 10 rounds anyway. :)

I looked at this one...i like it.

What's a good price for a .22 conversion on a colt? or the CZ 75?

CZ Kadet is around $350 here...http://www.jgsales.com/product_info.php/products_id/1110

I love my CZ pistols but the 75 is a 9mm as opposed to the .45 you'd be getting on most 1911 platforms.

but the Colt conversions seem to be a bit more...$499

Great Website, btw.

Hm.

I think i'll look to buy a CZ, it looks like a great gun! Maybe a calgunner has one and is trying to get rid of it....

Thanks for all your input guys..much appreciated.

I wouldn't pick my only handgun based on the fact that I can get a .22 conversion for it. Buy a .22 for plinking and whatever handgun you want for defense. At least thats my .02

Buy a Ruger Mark 3 for $300.

Are there any 1911-style .22s? I mean just a .22, not a conversion kit.

Kimber makes one, but the slide doesn't lock after the last round.

Ouch! Judging from prices on GB maybe I'll stick with my alternate choice, the Walther P22.

I know a lot of people like their P22 but before you buy, read up on how picky they are with ammo. Don't forget about Beretta U22 NEOS, Browning Buckmark or Ruger Mark III.

+1 on these ^ (real .22s) but I would prefer them in reverse order.

Yo,

Get a Beretta. Classic, and a great .22 kit.

Bust your hymen with a Colt 1911, just like your heart desires. It might hurt at first, but you'll learn to crave it!

ruger 22/45

This would cost about the same as a .22 conversion. My suggestion would be to buy a good 1911 and a 22/45!

Go Kimber and one of the aforementioned 22lr pistols and you should be one happy camper.

The Sig 226 in 9mm is my favorite gun of all time: and it's built like a Rolex. You can't go wrong with a Glock 17 too. Make sure you give it some consideration before you buy a gun.

All of these are great suggestions.

I think i'm leaning toward the CZ 75. I've read some good things about it...and even though I want the 1911, Just can't afford it now.

The CZ is a great gun, and i'll try to look for a Beretta U22 NEOS, or Ruger while I look for a CZ, whichever comes up.

ALSO, Thanks all for your commentary, much appreciated!

The 75 is available in .40, and if you get .40 you can get different barrels from places like efk firedragon and what not. Plus you can pick up a Kadet slide in .22.

Just picked this up this week, love it. Did some research and a ton of semi-autos are either based on the CZ75 or the 1911. Can't go wrong with either. The CZ's are definately underated and undervalued.
