View Full Version : When and when not to use Lead tip ammo?

Simply wondering because for my Spikes .22 upper, they recommend not using any lead tip ammo (I assume like Wolf/SK?), whereas I also read about most everyone using the Wolf/SK stuff for their CZ452, 10/22, Savage MkII's, etc. Is there any reason why Spikes recommends against using lead tips in their uppers, whereas it seems to be the norm to shoot it through other rifles?

It's probably to minimize jamming. A copper plated bullet is less likely to catch on something on its way into the chamber.

I've seen Youtube videos talking about recommended ammo for the GSG-5 (That I'm excited to be picking up Friday), and the plated bullets have been recommended due to supposed lead build-up problems with the non-plated ammo. I can't speak to it personally, but the explanation seemed reasonable to me, and might be why Spikes is making the same recommendation.
