View Full Version : Thanks to LaRue for huge CGF Donation!

Gene Hoffman reports a huge donation from Mark LaRue/LaRue Tactical has arrived via express today...

Mark had posted in the "Centerfire Rifles" forum, but I thought that thread was getting way too long and it's appropriate here anyway:

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/ii210/LaRueTactical/CalgunsFoundation.jpg

Whee!

We indeed all should thank Mark for his generosity. It's most deeply appreciated.

Y'all can thank Mark by buying one of his quality LaRue widgets.

This money - combined with other CGF fundraising - will help with any or all of the following:

keep a good guy out of the cooler on bogus gun charges

combined with above some "occupational therapy" for local DAs:
keep 'em busy so gun charges are no longer slam-dunk;

drive - either solo, or partnering with other gun-rights/civil-rights
organizations - aggressive, focused, intelligent RKBA cases whose
CA focus nevertheless can have nationwide implications.

We know every organization has to have phones, water,
electricity... we hope this will help cover a small portion
of those monthly costs.

Thanks for thinking of this, Mark, but do please realize that - at least for now, for the size we are - the CGF has a very low 'overhead'....

All the CGF board members are more-than-reasoanbly employed and, so far, the Board members generally take care of their travel, phone and other similar expenses themselves. We'd rather spend less time on organizational trivia and reimbursement minutiae and instead be somewhat of a 'virtual' organization so we can spend our precious time on the actual attack.

Gene Hoffman has provided operations/business presence space. Note that a quite small percentage of funds has gone to some CGF legal setup costs and accounting matters (501(c)(3), etc.); the rest of CGF funds disbursed go to reasonable legal fees, research and related case support (filing/printing costs, yada yada yada). Funds may also be expended in educational campaigns (say, ads) when deemed necessary.

We also promise that our attacks will be thoughtful and intelligent: gunnies can't afford another Silviera + Gary Gorsky drama.

Mark, thanks again for the support. Perhaps you've seen the recent CGF + SAF attack on the "Safe Handgun Roster"; please expect subsequent attacks on other offensive aspects of CA gun laws in the very very near future...

Don't mean to ruffle feathers here (Yes, I own several LaRue mounts and products), but does that mean Mark will finally be willing to sell his lowers to California buyers?

I could always ask directly on the 10-8 forums but I think this venue is more appropriate.

Thanks for supporting the Second Amendment battle here in California.

Your commitment is amazingly generous and I don't see any restrictions on CA sales on your lower pages now. This is all very good.

I hope you find the calguns community as supportive of LaRue and as you have shown yourself to be of CalGuns.

Well, they just convinced me that I should get my next upper from them.

Barrel question: they say their barrels are stainless steel with polygonal rifling. I assume that means they must be hammer forged? That's a big thing for me because it seems like hammer forged barrels are easier to clean. And I like that it's stainless.

As much as Mark's words left a bad taste in my mouth, I am glad to hear about his apparent change of heart.

I would like to see him offering complete CA compliant rifles for sale (adding a bullet button really isn't that hard) and selling his lowers to California customers as well. If he is moving in that direction I will place an order with his company. It won't be a large order by some standards but fairly large by mine.

Thank you Mr. LaRue

I've mostly stayed out of this topic, but I would seriously recommend thinking about the suggestions of California-only rifles or specially marked lowers as fund-raisers. As much as I want every manufacturer to be in California, winning the legal battle is more important. If making it so that LaRue lowers are only available in California through Calguns (or NRA, or SAF) fundraisers, frankly, to me that does more for our rights than just not staying out of California.

What about lowers marked for the significant California legal victories--Nordyke now, and soon we hope Pena and Sykes? I imagine that done right those could raise a lot more money than they cost to make, and also produce some useful press as well. ETA: I guess the SF public housing case should be on the list of wins too.

I'm always in favor of the long-term, overall win, not just right now. I want my rights more than I want my rifles.

Mark,

Thank you so much for your more-than-generous donation. It's a welcomed relief to have out-of-stater's such as yourself join us in our fight. I truly hope this will start a trend with other manufactures and other's in this industry to offer us the support we need.

The money that you've donated is going to go to good use. It's inspired me to donate, even though it is difficult for me to do so at this moment. The combined donations will do more than what has ever been done previously in this state.

Again, thank you very much for your support!

I respect that as a business decision, but i feel it is punishing the wrong people. (i do understand how much money he just donated)

The more lowers we end up with in PRK the more *common* they will become, and i think that the more common a firearm is the harder it will be to uphold these unconstitutional laws.

I respect that as a business decision, but i feel it is punishing the wrong people. (i do understand how much money he just donated)

The more lowers we end up with in PRK the more *common* they will become, and i think that the more common a firearm is the harder it will be to uphold these unconstitutional laws.

I can't believe it's a *business* decision not to sell lowers in CA. And I don't think he'd sell enough to make a difference in the number of California EBRs--you can get lowers enough places that everyone who has the money for an EBR can get one. It's not like Stag refused to sell them here, or something.

OTOH, his support definitely makes a difference in the CGF's ability to fight the very laws that LaRue regards as a reason not to sell lowers here. I'm mercenary about this sort of thing--I want to win. While not selling lowers here is a small symbolic minus to the fight, supporting CGF is a big practical plus. I'd rather him do that than sell lowers here. And if he can turn it into a way to gather support from other people, still better.

In any case, I think he's shown that he's committed to the 2A. Even if the "no lowers in CA" part seems wrong, that's a *strategy* difference, and we can have strategy differences among friends. I think it's very clear that on the 2A he's committed to the same fight.

You sure can. Just start your own company and grow it into a successful enterprise. (It would help to do this between 1995 and 2001, having a good exit strategy is also a good idea.)

ETA - I'm surprised they haven't put onerous regulations against the automakers, seeing as how cars are nothing but carriages for death's delivery.

Yeah, you're beginning to figure out California. However, you can also see (to quote myself elsewhere) what a rowdy bunch of malcontents Calgunners are. :43:

They have in the past and they're trying to do it again.
