I've removed the contact info as 107.7 has agreed to continue the ads without requiring any editing. They've also asked to remove their contact information from this posting, which is ironic since it's still directly from their website, but I've agreed to do so. Please remove Michael's e-mail from your posts if you copied mine.

Big thanks to everyone that contributed here. I'm sure the guys at City Arms appreciate it as well!

Anyone in the bay area that listens to 107.7 fm has likely heard the radio spots for City Arms in Pacifica. I happened to be in there today and Vladimir mentioned that 107.7 is refusing to renew their ad contract because of complaints from a few listeners. Supposedly it was six complaints total who were offended by gun ads on the radio. One complaint mentioned that his children could hear the commercial.

City Arms wants to continue to run the ads but need our support to influence the station. I'm not in any affiliated with City Arms other than as a customer but I've always liked that they're very proactive about getting their advertising to a broader audience. I'm sure lots of people here listen to the Bone and they should hear from us.

I loved that commercial!

Hello,

As an avid listener of your station, I was very shocked to hear an ad from City Arms in Pacifica. This seemed unusual in the Bay Area.

I applaud your willingness to remain unbiased and allow advertising from a store who works hard in helping citizens of our wonderful state exercise their freedoms. I have told many friends about this commercial, and received several excited phone calls from those that heard it on the Lamont and Tonelli show.

Please continue to support City Arms' access to an eager audience.

Thank you,

Canute

I just sent an email to their advertising department and here's what I got back. Quick, too:

We have been a partner of City Arms for over almost 2 years and don't wish
for our relationship to change. We recently had some complaints from our
listeners, and simply asked if we could change the commercial. We wish to
continue our relationship with City Arms, but have made a request we thought
was reasonable. In fact, nothing has changed. The commercials are still
running.

We are simply trying to keep our listeners happy. We haven't "refused"
advertising to City Arms.

These City Arms radio spots are the only pro second amendment radio spots I've ever heard. I was quite pleased to hear pro gun messages on the radio. A number of people have mentioned the ads to me, so I know these spots were effective. It is a shame that we are going to be denied access to this audience due to political correctness. As a gun enthusiast I often wonder how different my position in California would be had I been more pro-active in voicing and supporting my second amendment rights. When I look around at gun shows and gun stores most of the people are middle aged or older. We need to be reaching out to younger people with the message of freedom. If we canít buy air time like our opposition, then we are effectively being silenced. I am tired of feeling like I canít speak my mind openly because people might be offended or frightened by a pro gun position. We need ads promoting the second amendment Ė there is no other way to educate the public.

I'm a rather tender eared country boy and Lamont and Tonelli are too much for me. I just don't listen to the station then. I didn't listen to their show on the old KJSO either.
To think that City Arms' commercial could be offensive...

I agree, but they're alot more lewd and offensive than a gun store commercial. I love 107.7, I've won a concert tickets a couple of times, and was even on their work force pay roll once.

I heard the City Arms commercial the other day and I couldn't believe what I was hearing.... a pro-second amendment radio commercial! I wish I would have heard it before I went down to City Arms so I could tell them how awesome it is!

You aren't entirely correct. We have been a partner of City Arms for over almost 2 years and don't wish for our relationship to change. We wish to continue our relationship with City Arms, but have made a request we thought was reasonable. In fact, nothing has changed.

I will explore this further on Monday. However, this is in NO WAY a political statement made by our company. We are simply trying to keep our listeners happy. We haven't "refused" advertising to City Arms.

Why don't they advertise on a conservative station like KSFO or KTRB instead? The pro-gun owner of KSCO down the coast in Santa Cruz will gladly accept their advertising. He already runs commercials for the TS Gun Shows and other firearms dealers.

The BONE (where'd they get that stupid nickname) is just a cheap attempt to immitate the original KSAN 94.9 FM that was started by Metromedia in 1968. Acid rock and guns? Does City Arms really want to sell firearms to a bunch of aging hippies? Current federal law prohibits the sale of these weapons to people who use drugs including marijuana!

From what I heard KSFO stopped taking gun adds a few years back.

As far as demographics. The BONE's demographics are probably mostly male between 20 to 50.

Acid rock, that is a term that I haven't heard in decades. I guess it is before my time.

Remember that the original KSAN was the beginning of the FM underground radio scene. They were the hippies, the stoners, the anti-war and anti-gun crowd. A few of them have survived long enough, to find jobs living in the past on a new frequency, pretending to do what they did 40 years ago...

The Bone's request for City Arms to change their ad, is the height of hypocricy. A Listener who would find a pro 2A ad offensive "for his children", while letting them listen to LaMont & Tennelli is the height of Moronism. That sob has lost so many brain cells, he probably never even had realized the 1st A is protected by the 2nd A.

Hippies do not equate to drugs users any more than criminals equate to legal gun owners. Stop letting the media dictate your mindset and fact base. You hacker! :p

I do think Uncle V. would legally sell to anyone who to was genuinely interested in owning a firearm as long as there as no alternate political agenda in the sale.

Cumulus Broadcasting also owns KNBR. Maybe those sensitive children should listen to Gary Radnich call people dicks and *****s on the air instead. Last week he went on and on about farting. Former state sen. John Burton sometimes calls in too. He's not bashful about using George Carlin's "seven dirty words" either including f----.

KNBR also lets professional gamblers and casinos provide tips, for listeners, who make illegal bets on ball games in California. Tony Salvadore needs to clean up his illegal activities, before he worries about censoring ads for lawful products...

Not in city full of communist rulers, who have wasted taxpayers time and money on resolutions demanding that broadcasters be fired. Corrupt politicians have demanded the heads of Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage, Lee Rodgers, Ronn Owens, Pete Wilson and even ultra-liberal Bernie Ward. The children must listen to ads for Viagra, Cialis and Lavitra. "Mommy what's that?"

It might be fun to complain about all of those sports betters on KNBR; because they encourage illegal gambling on the radio. It doesn't make sense to crack down on off-shore internet poker games; when the same kind of crap is heard on 50 thousand watt radio stations, that won't run ads for a legal product or events...

Thanks for starting the thread, sevans.

A little real grass-roots activism keeps alive an access point to our local mass-media.

Nothing is more symptomatic of American life than advertising. "I heard it on the radio" / "I saw it on TV" returns the idea of guns to something common.

And what is common is less scary.

YOU know what part was offensive, the part about GUNS and gun ownership being presented in a positive light. I'm sure it was only a handful of the "professionally offended" who were responsible plus a couple of staffers as previously mentioned. As I said in my e-mail: I have always found it interesting that those who scream the loudest about freedom of speech are often the first ones to limit speech when it doesn't agree with them.

I think that sometimes all that is required is for our group to stand up and voice their support for our shops, ranges, resellers, and our 2A interests on the whole. Too often we sit by with what we perceive to be "nice" silence waiting for someone to come to their senses.

In this case we didn't wait silently. We balanced out ignorance, misconceptions, and stupid lies with the plain and honest truth. I am proud of everyone who called, wrote, faxed, or emailed the Bone. (Even if some of you were a little over the top.)

Well done people!
