So my wife just gave birth to our first child and I wanted to start early looking for something for mothers day. Any ideas?

congrats: just make sure its something SHE likes.......

budget?

baby born in April = diamond as the birthstone.....how about a diamond stack ring? or a stack ring alternating a color stone with diamond? doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg.....the color stone could be your wife's birth stone or even both you and your wife's birth stone.

advantage of a thin stack ring is that if you have other children, you can add another one for that child as well.

I am not a lady, but, I think she needs some nice, High Thread Count Sheets!

I got my Mom these last year, and she reminds me, everytime I see her!

get her the pillow cases too!

Congrats on the little one!

Well, sheesh. How about a new handgun?

lol ... j/k

You know her better than we do. Plus she being so nearby and all, she probably would tell you if you asked.

Anyway ... How about a new P&S digital camera? Some come in really pretty colors too, like pink and baby blue. lol

Best gift you could give her?

Probably you -- your time, your attention, your just being there to help out and do the little things, your cheerfulness, encouragement, sympathy, etc.

And for sure. Congratuations to the two of you!

P.S. Those are nice sheets, Andrew. But the color selection ... Where's lavender, light sea green, white lace? lol

eta: sorry but sheets would be as bad as buying an iron or a vacuum......which is ok if that's something she want.....i'm all for nice sheets! but.......for the birth of a child? something i would look at 20-30 years down the road?

Do something that becomes a tradition.

For my mom, I gave her a rose bush every year (this was started by my Dad). I always made sure that it was a color she didn't have or it was a color she had suggested. Over the years it has translated into different flowering plants, per her request. The nice thing is that the price is normally about $20 or less.

Just remember make sure that it is from the heart and if it is something you want your child/children to continue over the years make sure it is something that they can afford to continue.

Congrats on the new one, they grow up fast.....

Something shiney... we chicks dig shiney -- even if it's an A+ bluing job on a 1911 slide!

Maybe it's easier to suggest to you what NOT to give her -- a blender. That was in my former life and therefore, I have an ex-husband. The blender was definitely not cool.

Hey, so good luck. I commend you for being thoughtful and starting early on your endeavor!

Have you settled on the gift yet? If so, what did you pick?

If money is tight, you could always do what my hubby did early on in our marriage. He made up a coupon book. Each coupon had a goofy picture and description of what it was good for. The services ranged from domestic duties, to ummm... well... racier services! :) Just be creative.
