A member of the board here is going to be duracoating some parts for me in the near future. Would it be legal for me to send him my stripped lower for him to duracoat and ship back to me? Would this be the same as "lending" a rifle?
I would just drive there, but he's 6+ hours away. I don't want to do anything illegal.

No. If the person does not have the correct FFL type for manufacturing or gunsmithing, then you cannot ship the lower to them. You will have to be present when the work is performed on your lower if they don't have the correct FFL type. There are no exceptions to this since the lower receiver on an AR is the firearm as per ATF regulations.
