Well, as many of you know me here, it is no secret I buy allot of guns. On a scale from 1-10 with ten being highest, I buy ALLOT OF GUNS!

Now I told you that so I could tell you this;

Way back in October '08 I got a call from a Turners store manager that they had found a used gun for me that I had said to watch for, well, pretty close. I was looking for the S&W Chief's Special .45 ACP (CS-45). What they found was a brushed SS CS-9 chambered 9mm.

Liking the 1/4" smaller and adding one additional round, made me really like the gun. However because I had so many new and used guns (non PPT) that require a 30 day wait, this one would be quite a while before getting to come home. Since I had already ordered several new guns (pre-Obama), the earliest pick up date would be after all the other mandatory 30 day waits were fulfilled. That day finally came in mid April and the actual pick up was today.

What I am complaining about is that even though I was PAID IN FULL (and have a receipt that shows it) and that I wanted to pick the gun months ago. The state would not allow the CS-9 to go home with me.

Enter Obama and the governator. I was finally able to do the DROS, but because of the increase in taxes in California and even though I had a "paid in full, balance zero" I was informed that since I didn't take possession of the gun before today, I now was responsible to pay the difference in tax.

The only reason I didn't pick it up sooner was because of the states goofy rules and now I have to pay the difference in the tax money. They want to reach back and charge me more tax on top of what I already paid in full in October.

It just ain't right!

Honestly, that's disgusting. I feel for ya! Make sure not to let the state stick it to you anymore with the upcoming votes for props :)

that doesnt sound right to me. I think they either misread the regs or are just wrong.

If you paid in full, you own it. possession/= ownership. once you own it, you shouldnt have to pay more tax on it just because the rates go up. if that was the case, we would all be sending checks to the state today to pay our adjustments on things bought in the past years.

I think you got screwed.

I think you got screwed.

I was thinking that as I handed him the money.

But he wasn't letting me leave with my gun and he was sure of what he had been told to do. I figured to post it here and see if others have had anything happen like this before I go after Turner's for my money back.

Well, just make sure you don't pay any taxes on it if you ever sell it for more than you paid for, maybe that will balance things out.

That sounds like a lot of BS... I would call corporate to let them know how you feel about your transaction. Tell corporate that you may no longer wanna do business with them as you can find firearms online at fair prices with out getting gouged, you will warn all of your friends on firearm fourms, and let them know about the store you where at and there business practices. Additionally, let them know that you where a loyal customer that did a lot of business with them, and that this transaction changed your whole prospective towards future purchases at Turners Retail Stores.

time to get a c&r and a coe. no more 30-day waits.

+100000000000 I got my COE thinking I would never use it and I used 3 times in the first 30 days all for C&R hand guns plus with COE there is no wait on any hand gun that is 50+ years old as long as it goes through an 01 FFL still

There's nothing right about our taxes or our gun laws.

Take it back to a Turners in a county with a higher tax rate than where you bought it.

Seriously, I bought something at an OC Turners and when I returned it to the West Covina store, the clerk said she would have to give me the full return based on what would have been charged in L.A. County. Yep, they returned more than I had paid with the difference being the 0.5% tax difference between the counties.

i 'bought' a gun at turners a few years back.... the manager assured me the gun was made in germany as i wanted nothing to do with an american made sig. i noticed the stamping did not mention germany but he assured me the gun was made there, and exeter was just the import location. i walked out of the store and thought better about it and walked right back in, looked at the gun closer and... yes it was made in the u.s.a.. it was important enough for me to cancel the deal even knowing i would still have to pay the dros fee. the manager told me it would be several weeks to get my money back as i wrote a check and i would have to pay for a re-stocking fee. his attitude was harsh and punitive even after i pointed out his mistake. restocking fee? this was 3 minutes from when i walked out of the store and i was canceling the sale due to misinformation. the kindly counter person actually protested to the manager because there was no re-stocking needed. the manager said there would be a fee "because i can, it's legal." i did not argue; i left with them having my check and me unable to purchase a gun until my money could be credited back to my checking account. i was fuming. the manager was so hostile i decided i would NOT buy a different gun in that store. i immediately called their corporate office and was helped by a woman in customer service. i informed her i was canceling the check and would pay the dros but not a restocking fee. i shared why i canceled the sale. i told her about the manager's attitude and that even the counter person protested the re-stocking fee. she committed to calling me back in 20 minutes and did. she told me there would be no re-stocking fee and turners would eat the cost of the dros; she was very apologetic about the treatment i received. turners did eat the cost of the dros. but when i canceled the check i had a problem with a check guarantee company, which ultimately took about 2 weeks to straighten out with the assistance of that same woman from turners corporate. the turners was in orange county, either fullerton or santa ana area; embarrassed to admit i am not sure which store. this happened about 1 1/2 years ago.

the point i am making is if you have problem with turners and feel you are right, call their corporate office.
