I know this has been asked before, but search did not turn up any useful results. What lowers are the best? Any to avoid?

They are all built to the same spec, here (http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=12&t=318113) are the tiny differences

I've only built on Stag, RRA and Kaiser Defense.

I like the Kaiser's best.

I like Tactical Innovations TA15BDX. But realy they all do the same exact thing, save your money for the rest of your build

Since you are in the Bay Area, go to Irvington Arms and get a billet receiver made by Sun Devil for about $200. You can't beat that, plus it has a screw under the pistol grip that allows you to tighten up any slop between your upper and lower if there is any. Rock solid!

I am not sure if they have them now, but they get them all the time.

There are not many too avoid. Most places won't even bother selling junk. A lower has nothing to do with how accurate your rifle is...just a preference to each person.

Mine is the one with lower parts in it and a functioning upper!

Vulcan!!

Yes, this is one to avoid, but I have only seen one of those at a gun show. One dealer was brave enough to put one out, but it was .308 Vulcan/Hesse lower.

Vulcan,Double Star, Stag, Lauer, LMT....any lower is my favorite as long it is not polymer! Its like asking what your favorite brand of water is.

Stag is fine

I got a Charles Daly lower from City Arms for less than $200 out the door (lower was 169.99 then add the DROS fee). I'm waiting on a LPK to ship to me then off the range to try it, but it looks nice.

Well my favorite water is faucet water. But yes, they all function the same for the most part. It comes down to which logo you like best.

Have built on Mega, and Kaiser Defense.
I like the fit, and finish of both. Both function perfectly.
For the next one (when the AK's are done) I would probably do as suggested eariler in this thread, and save the cash for the rest of the build by buying an Essential Arms lower. Dupli-color 500 is cheap, and easy to apply if I am not happy with the finish. So long as it's built to spec it doesn't make a difference to me.

I agree to, but why doesn't someone else make a sweet lower like this? Magpul made a great prodct but they aren't doing anything with it. I've seen a mega with ribbing or something on the front of the magwell, I think I saw a sundevil with integral trigger guard. Put them together with a quality manufacturer and you have your magpul "style" lower.

I agree. You think more manufacturers would want to make something similar. There are plenty of us that would like to buy a nice billet lower, But can't find one

I may be wrong, but I believe that POF manufactured that lower for Magpul. If you don't care about price and want a quality lower, I would take a look at POF.

I have a variety of lowers from different manufacturers. The only one I can't stand are the Stags. Not because they are poor quality, but because of that deer head logo on the side of it. It just kills it for me. That's probably why they put it there, so it wouldn't look so "evil". Now if there wasn't the broad selection of lowers that we have to choose from, they would be great!

I have 2 Anvil Arms in transit right now. A pistol & Rifle lower, cant wait till they get here to see how my image I submitted came out.

You are correct...

No need for "yet another" company to copy Magpul's design...

Magpul lower is made by POF and is just another POF lower just w/ a nicer trigger guard design....

POF's one sucks tho... I can't stand their curvy trigger guard...

http://sgcusa.com/images/supporting_images_large/POF_Gen3_Stripped_Lower_B.jpg

Most people thought that the Magpul is unique.... but the only unique part is the Magpul logo.... yet, I still spent quite a bit to acquire my Magpul MPL-A lower.... just cuz.... there are ONLY 100 of them in public's hands... and it will probably stay that way (Noveske do not have anymore of Magpul's lowers, hence there won't be anymore "limited" edition rifles)

Colt makes the best. But for OLL's, Mega lowers have the waffle-grip, which is nice. Anvil Arms lowers have a nice fit/finish to them. And POF's are great, but you'll pay for them. There are lots of forged lowers out there, most will fit with an upper just fine. It's the finish that might not be up to par on some.

I just ordered one of these (not cheap), made by Seekins Precision.

His scope rings are really well made, so I'm expecting the fit/finish on these will be superb.

Haha, I know everyone hates Vulcan! But I have had one for a few years now and I still love it.I currently have a Del-Ton,Vulcan,CMMG and a Spikes on the way I have de-horned the Vulcan and Dura-Coated it and by far the nicest lower I have and it has fit DPMS,RRA,Del-Ton uppers with no slpo and or problems. The only problem I have ever had was when I used crappy mags!
