View Full Version : Superior Arms S15 or CMMG stripped lower?

I was wondering if anyone on calguns had a superior arms stripped lower receiver. I'm going to be building my first AR15, and I'm interested in purchasing one, mainly because its the most affordable, given today's market. I tried searching on it, but haven't really found anything (except for searches on google). So far I've heard mixed opinions and I was wondering if you guys can help? Theres also a CMMG stripped lower that's gotten good feedback, but its about 25 dollars more. help noob out? lol

The only reason that i wouldnt go with a cmmg lower is that its hard to get it to match another brand of upper besides their own.

The BCM uppers seem like they would be a good match for the CMMG, can anyone verify/deny?

Superior Arms has the set screw to make your trigger nice and tight, provided you figure out how to use it. Wish all lowers could do this.

ohh. Will a RRA LPK be compatible with either one?

An RRa LPK will be fine Go with the cmmg Rifle gear in costa mesa has them for 189 and I think oc armory may have som too.

Buy the time you pay for shipping and at least 75 for a FFL transfer. You would end up paying more for the same lower that you have to wait for. Its cheaper to buy localy unless you are getting a realy good deal.

hmm i'll take that into consideration.
but would the superior arms receiver be a better decision than the cmmg receiver?
Or should i wait until prices go fairly down?

it doesn't matter. a lower is a lower is a lower... any brand lpk will fit in any brand lower. any brand upper will fit on top of any brand lower. (these rules are accurate for 99.9% of everything that is out there.) just get one and start building already!

They are all the same alot of the big companys don't even make their own receivers. I beleive superior arns actualy make their own. It doesn't really matter what I or anyone else thinks. As long as that is the one you want then get it because thats what matters. Superior arms will work just fine in my opinion

Better logo and finish imo.

Better logo and finish imo.
That finish is more durable on a CMMG, but can make it a little more difficult when installing some of the pins during the build if they over sprayed the teflon. Not an issue, but just more time to build on average. Although I put together a Stag lower for a calgunner that took a while to get all the pins thru for some strange reason and it didn't have a heavy coat of anything.
A lower should only take 20 to 25 minutes to build. That is sort of how I judge em, but the CMMG is way cool as the picture on the side reminds me of what it is supposed to look like. lol :)
I bought one just because of this.

Yes I do like the the logo for the CMMG lower. hmm I think may go for the superior lower, since they all do the same job (right?).
I'll worry about aesthetics when i have more money :)

Where are you looking at the superior? Can you pm me a link. Thanks

i also saw the YHM lowers in the commercial section for sales. should i spent just a little bit extra? or will the superior just be fine for me, since its my first build n all?

OC Armory has cmmg for 179 right now. Thats 218 out hte door. If you're getting a superior For 125 online you would have to pay 75 for FFl transfer and dros, shipping and tax You would be paying over 220. Just my 2 cents
04-18-2009, 12:29 PM
220? i'm getting rougly 204 if i'm not missing anything. and thats getting the superior lower
120 (lower) + 10.5 (tax) + 12.5 (shipping/guessing on that) + 25 (dros) + 35 (ffl fees) = $204
04-18-2009, 12:36 PM
Total for my CMMG was about $217 after all was said and done. Where you're ordering from should be out of state so no sales tax.

The FFL I beleive will have to charge sales tax. Where are you doing you transfer/
04-18-2009, 12:49 PM
i'll be doing it at bright spot pawn
