Look on the bright side. He's digging himself and even bigger credibility hole. When it comes to guns the alternative media can call him a liar and it won't be rhetoric. There's no way around something obvious like that.

Facts matter today because the mainstream media can't conveniently fail to mention the truth without people finding out. Look at the recent DHS report. Janet Napolitano recently apologized to Veterans.

Well the good news is he's not looking to reinstate the old AW ban - just enforcing the existing ones.

At best on a good day it's 90% of traceable guns. That's because the only guns that can be traced back to a US owner actually do come from the USA.

And that's also the only guns it's possible to trace - most can't be, because they're from someplace where full-auto AKs are in the $300 range in quantity.

Does the figure include the military exports stolen, traded, and embezzled which came from the US? It's a heck of a thing paying almost two grand for an LMT or Colts here you can get elsewhere in the world for half that or less.

Thanks for the clarification. Even if he did get the memo, do you really think it would matter much to him? I have my doubts.

All that matters is that once again another sound bite spouting the evils of assault weapons made it into the mainstream media. Ready packaged for consumption by Joe and Mary Q. Sixpack, reinforcing the idea that these firearms are Baaaad. Baaaad is an easy word for the sheeple to chant. Get enough of them chanting together and the truth won't matter.

I've never met a politician that let something as simple as the truth stand in the way of their agenda.

99% of the 90% came from the basement of his house in chicago where he keeps the child prostitutes and crack for distributions.

Of course not. He's a politician & it doesn't fit in with his political goals as a liberal democrat. He'll keep blabbering the 90% figure enough because he knows there are people out there who believe everything he says.

Tell a big lie often enough and it becomes the truth... especially when delivered from behind the seal of the President of the United States.

I am sure this has been posted on CalGuns before, but I thought it worthwhile to repost it now:

The Myth of 90 Percent: Only a Small Fraction of Guns in Mexico Come From U.S. (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/elections/2009/04/02/myth-percent-guns-mexico-fraction-number-claimed/)

While 90 percent of the guns traced to the U.S. actually originated in the United States, the percent traced to the U.S. is only about 17 percent of the total number of guns reaching Mexico.

The sheeple dont care if it is lie, all they know is that the media is on his side, and they are saying the same thing. Much like global warming, people don't demand the facts anymore, only the 30 second news bite.

A lie told enough times, and by the right people is the truth.

That is SO true! I have seen it time and time again.

People don't seem to learn.

Of course, most that buy into this stuff, keep their eyes and ears closed while drinking their Kool-aid

I posted this on the other thread (http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=174365&page=2) concerning the 90%

In the news article at the International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), a non government organization (NGO) they are using a paper by the Brady bunch to put forth the 90% argument as official.
http://www.iansa.org/

The paper is here dtd March 2009
Exporting Gun Violence
http://www.bradycenter.org/xshare/pd...n-violence.pdf (http://www.bradycenter.org/xshare/pdf/reports/exporting-gun-violence.pdf)

The papers references siting the 90%;
2 Dane Schiller & Dudley Althaus, Guns sold here kill in Mexico, HOUSTON CHRONICLE, Nov. 30, 2008
(90%); U.S. DEPT. OF STATE, BUREAU FOR INTERNATIONAL NARCOTICS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT AFFAIRS,
International Narcotics Control Strategy Report, Vol. 1, Drug and Chemical Control 414 (Mar. 2009)
(95%); John Asbury, Guns move south via Inland gangs, THE PRESS-ENTERPRISE, Sept. 28, 2008 (95%);
Manuel Roig-Franzia, U.S. guns behind cartel killings in Mexico, WASHINGTON POST, Oct. 29, 2007, at A1
(100%).

By the way the article says "It is estimated that around 2000 weapons per day are flowing from the US into Mexico".

So any news you read utilizing IANSA as a reference is highly suspect, to use kind words.

How is IANSA funded? (Cut & pasted from IANSA's site) (http://www.iansa.org/about.htm)

IANSA’s work has been supported by funders including the Governments of UK, Belgium, Sweden and Norway, as well as the Ford Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, Compton Foundation, Ploughshares Fund, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Open Society Institute, Samuel Rubin Foundation and Christian Aid.
