I was reading a comparative review of the Remington 700 on www.gun-tests.com (http://www.gun-tests.com/). They only gave the 700 a "C." Among their criticisms was that the safety was noisy. Other complaints were price, trigger pull, recoil, and aesthetics.

I handled a 700 in a gun store and the safety made a little click. Is this a valid criticism? Do other comparable rifles have silent safeties?

Elsewhere, our team found other items they didn’t like. The 700 CDL’s safety was noisy and snappy going on and off, compared to the silent operation of the Savage and the Browning. Also, where both the Browning and the Savage had floated barrels, there was heavy contact of the barrel and forearm in the 700CDL.

I disagree with the aesthetics issue

ETA:

I like the looks of most Rem 700 models... except the VTR

Why do you need your safety "silent"? Your target won't be able to hear you 500meters away anyways....

Some of them critters have pretty good hearing, and you might stumble upon a closer shot.
