So I'm finally going to finish my build and the only thing I don't have are magazines. I was going to get Bushmaster 10 rounders, which were recommended here some time ago. But then I was wondering whether there is a functional reason that people use the 10/20 or 10/30 rounders, or do people like them just for their appearance? I'm planning on taking this thing to an Appleseed shoot if that matters.

Also, do any of the OLL friendly dealers have the Bushmaster 10 rounders on hand?

I don't know but i think for looks. It's not worth it to me. Even if they are legal I don't need the fuzz putting me under the microscope.

I would think that the 20 round mags are a bit easier to pick up and insert during a rapid fire mag change than the 10 rounders. When I used to shoot highpower with an AR, I preferred the 20 rd mags over the 30 rd mags as they were easier for me to handle during rapid fire. I haven't dealt with the 10 rd mags, so I'm speculating that they are a bit on the smallish side.

Yup, real 10 rounders don't stick out much. I put the Magpul base plates on mine to have something to grab, but I still like the feel of a 20 rounder.

And they look wicked cool... ;)

10/30's look sweet but get in the way when bench or prone shooting
10/20's dont get in the way as much as 10/30's and look pretty cool
Plain 10 rounders look goofy

yup mainly for looks, imagine an uber tacticool ar15 build with a dinky CA 10rder in the magwell = corny. whats even worse is a ak47 with a 10rder in the magwell

CMP service rifle requires 20 or 30 round bodies, so that's another reason.

Here is a good source for quality 10/10 AR mags..I use these and so do my friends.

http://www.44mag.com/prodinfo.asp?number=CP10B

Why go for a 10/10rd mag? So you can be sure it holds only 10rds.

My friend has an OLL M4 clone with a Bullet button with 10/20 and 10/30 mags. He also has RAW ARs and OLL ARs with MMG with plenty of preban 30rd mags. He took all 3 ARs to the range. At the range he accidentally inserted a high cap mag into his OLL M4 and created an illegal AW. It was a completely by mistake and he did not realized it until he shot 11, 12,13
rds

Now if he had mistakenly left a high cap mag in his OLL M4 and his car was search, talking about a felony..Now he only uses 10rd mags in the M4..Lessom is make sure you only have a 10rd mag in a BB OLL AR..

purely for looks only. i got 10 rd'ers and also the 10/30 pmags. does get into the way of bench shooting though. purely for looks, but i like how my c 10 slot in the receiver much smoother than the pmags. but i'm still getting the 10/20 pmags once someone has them made. :)

pretty much said what I would have said if he had not said it before I was going to say it

an AR looks pretty anemic with a little nub of a 10 rounder sticking out the mag well.. but a bit over the top with a 30, and a 20 is right in the middle. plus, it is hard for me to justify the room for a 30 when you can only use 10 so again, why the 20 it a great go between.

Way back when, I bought a 10/20 lanced Stainless Steel magazine. I tore it apart wanting to make sure that the followers truly wouldn't drop past 10 rounds. I even put it in a vise and tried to bend the lanced tabs to see if they would move. (they did by a little) but not enough to cause the follower to hold 11 rounds. The side lances are a dead give away that the mags are permanently altered should an inquisitive LEO come calling.

These 10/20's seem much more user friendly to the 10 rounders. Makes my rifle look like it should, gives me something to grab when I change mags and all in all seems to be the best option. That being said, when I go to the range, I load up on all the 20's I have and then fill the 10 rounders also.

10/30's are good to but are more of a novelty IMHO.

I have one 10/30 for pics. The range is 10/10. The less eyebrows raised the better.
