Everyone is different. What are some of your store rules?
1. For instance, checking ID when someone wants to see a gun. Will you let someone 18-21 see a handgun?
2. Do you limit ammo purchases?
3. Will you offer an HSC to those under 21? Many stores will only issue an HSC is you are 21 or over.
4. Time limit on PPT's? (No PPT's within the hour of closing?)
5. How many employee's does your store have? I have always been curious how many people it takes to run an FFL. (This will vary depending on the size of the shop)
6. If you are a range, do you allow Wolf ammo?
7. Do you accept in state, or out of state transfers? Is there a flat fee? (Non-PPT's)
8. Do you allow your employees to carry loaded UOC/CCW/LOC while on the premises?
Any other local rules your store may have?
Not to bash any FFL's, I am just curious how different people do different things.

I'm not an FFL, but curious to know why someone under 21 would want an HSC knowing that they can't use it for anything until they reach that age?
It's basically throwing away money...

lorax, you know it is illegal for under 21 to possess a handgun under CA law, right?

A person between 18-20 needs an HSC to be loaned a handgun or do a Intra-family transfer of the handgun. If you need one for those purposes, it is not a waste of money.

I know intra-familial is okay if you are under 21, but to purchase?

No, you can't purchase if under 21, but you said it was illegal to possess if under 21, with no qualifiers, even though it could be acquired through a loan or an intra-family transfer.
YOu can't PPT if under 21 since it has to go through a dealer, and they can't transfer it to you after the 10-days if you are under 21.

Sorry, my bad. My impulsive "submit reply" button syndrome.

It's all good. You can own any firearm if you are 18 or older. An 18 year old can receive a handgun as a gift/inheritance, or even sold to him by his parents.
I would see it beneficial for an FFL to let someone 18-21 see a handgun. That person could very well go home and ask his mother father grandmother or grandfather for a Christmas gift.

Here goes.....
1. For instance, checking ID when someone wants to see a gun. Will you let someone 18-21 see a handgun?
Yes.
2. Do you limit ammo purchases?
No. If you have the $$ and I have the product, buy as much as you want. The guy/gal standing in front of me with the $$ has priority.
3. Will you offer an HSC to those under 21? Many stores will only issue an HSC is you are 21 or over.
Yes. See above as for why.
4. Time limit on PPT's? (No PPT's within the hour of closing?)
No. PPTs don't take that long and it's required that an FFL do them.
5. How many employee's does your store have? I have always been curious how many people it takes to run an FFL. (This will vary depending on the size of the shop)
I have three guys working for me at various times. Usually no more than two of us at any one time. Some times there are three, but it varies. Two is good to run a shop the size of mine, three is better. One can get tiring at times.
6. If you are a range, do you allow Wolf ammo?
Not a range.
7. Do you accept in state, or out of state transfers? Is there a flat fee? (Non-PPT's)
Yes. Flat fee of $50 (+DROS) for up to three firearms at once. $10 per gun for everything over three.
8. Do you allow your employees to carry loaded OUC/CCW/LOC while on the premises?
Yes, my guys are all allowed to carry while working in the store. Most do, some don't. Their choice.

1. For instance, checking ID when someone wants to see a gun. Will you let someone 18-21 see a handgun?
Yes, that's fine. Anyone under 18 or looks to be under 18 must have a parent with them.
2. Do you limit ammo purchases?
Never.
3-4 Not applicable to me. I'm in MI.
5. How many employee's does your store have? I have always been curious how many people it takes to run an FFL. (This will vary depending on the size of the shop)
Just myself and a part time machinist.
6. No range.
7. Do you accept in state, or out of state transfers? Is there a flat fee?
I accept any transfer, inbound, outbound whether interstate or domestic, new or used. If it's legal I will transfer it. Flat fee; shipping outbound is additional.
8. Do you allow your employees to carry loaded OUC/CCW/LOC while on the premises?
I require employees to have a Concealed Pistol License (that way I have good reason to believe they are "good people" of moral character and can be trusted with the types of weapons I deal with and make) and they must carry while on the clock, whether open or concealed, weapon must be loaded. My machinist carries a 4 inch M29 .44 Mag openly. I switch between a 10mm 1911, G26 or a H&K P7.
I allow customers to carry concealed or openly, but the gun better stay in the holster. If their gun comes out, mine comes out.
Unsafe gun handling is corrected once, and a second time they get tossed out and blacklisted. Safety is a mindset.
That's about it.
