I did not want to hijack the thread on the SIG vs another AR build, but if you were to consider another 5.56 rifle that was not an AR/M4, what would it be?

I know the HK is not availble yet un the USA, but I think there may be a few out there (Europe or Canada maybe?).

Any input would be great!

Thanks!

I have yet to shoot my newly acquired Robinson M/96, but I'll get back to you on how it shoots. It's a solid feeling rifle though. Makes AR's feel like toys.

Does anyone have an idea when the HK 556 will be available? The HK website states end of 2009, but I think there maybe a few people who already have one...

Um, there seems to be a mandatory "upgrade" on some M96 Expeditionary Rifle, M96 Carbine, or M96 Top Fed Carbine. Link (http://www.robarm.com/Upgrades.asp)

Please excuse this if this is a silly question, but is the Robinson M/96 equilivant to the HK MR556 (416)? I'm just not familuar with it.

Thanks!

I would go with the Sig for this reason. HK, from what i read, has aid that the MR556 upper will not be compatible with AR lowers. Unless they change their mind, I'm going with a POF 416 upper.

My guess is that knowing HK, the MR556 will be alot more dough than a Sig 556 or a nice piston AR

I have a SIG 556 Pistol and like the fact it uses AR mags. I also like HK, and have a USC and like the fact that like SIG, HK backs their products with a lifetime warranty.

Depends on your preference, will probably be a great gun. Down the road I'm looking for a 7.62 AR and the HK 417 is one option I'm looking at but if it's going to be like $4K for either the 416 or 417 then not it's worth it. Plus think the HK parts will all be proprietary including the mags (not 100% sure though) and that would be kind of a bummer.

The Sig 556 is available now and is a lot cheaper than what I think the HK 416/417 will be priced at.

Before I got into AR's and learned a bit about all the piston options I was all over wanting an HK416 as I have been very happy with my USP 45.

But there are other quality piston AR options now that make the HK less and less unique today - especially if they plan to price this puppy like they do their handguns.

The HK does look pretty sexy though. With the exception of the SIG ER model, the 556 looks kind of bulky. - Just my opinion

I wonder how the fn scar rifle stacks up? anyone ever see one in CA? last time I saw one it was going for about $5k on gunbroker....

I shot my friends sig 556, rock solid and functioned perfectly. Probably not to many people have fired a hk ar.

I have a Sig 556, I enjoy shooting that plateform. I would consider another HK rifle, but would have to consider the price point. Are we talking another 1 or 2 thousand dollars over the cost of the Sig 556? Ouch!!!

I know. That's why I haven't shot the rifle yet.

I had never heard of these until I read your post. It looks like a very interesting rifle though. The quick-change barrel and ability to change to top-feed...woah. If I had been aware of these before I sank $2k into an AR...I just might have one in the safe right now. How is availability? Are they backordered into next century or can you actually get one?

The Sig 556 is a bit bulky, especially the SWAT model, which I own. That said, it is one of the finest rifles I have ever fired. The weight of the beast builds upper body strength, another plus. ;)

Haven't fired the HK, so I don't know how that compares. Comparing the Sig to an AR/EBR though is no comparison though. The Sig blows it away. Just ridding yourself of the nasty 'TWANG' you get from the recoil spring in an AR is enough to justify the added expense of a Sig.

They stopped making them in 2005. Currently, you would have to find one used, but Robinson Armament has mentioned that they might do another short production run. They have put all of their resources toward the development of the XCR (another solid alternative to the AR).

Love the HK416. Superior in just about every way to the AR/M16/M4

Where do you get a HK416? per the website, they are not supposed to be released until late this year?

BTW - How much did you pay?

For the price of th new HK, it is not worth it. You might as well get a piston upper ar for over half the price.
