If I put an aftermarket Bi-Pod on my M1A, can it be construed as a forward grip thus making the rifle an AW?

Thanks,

Al

I don't believe so. You see pictures of M1A's with bipods all over this site, don't ya?

I sure do, perhaps they were registered due to this fact!

Bipods are fine as long as they aren't also labeled as a forward grip like this one:http://www.smithenterprise.com/imagesprod/8025.lg.jpg. Plus most bipods are mounted by the sling swivel which it would make it using the bipod as a grip pretty uncomfortable (unless you have really long arms).

if that were true than this would be a short barrel rifle

A bipod is not a VFG.

How so? Totally irrelevant... and that's an AW anyways.

In simpler words...

A Bipod is NOT a Vertical Forward grip.

I went with the Tango Down Bipod - quiet (no spring twang sounds) and it folds up nicely...

Gotta find a pick of my M1A with it on

Actually, it would be an AOW.

Just don't mount the swivel stud in the hole on the bottom of the stock, that's for gas to come out (and you know what happens when gas can't escape) :chris:

So, what's the quality like on those Tangodown bipods? I would assume the best, being that they cost $198. Are they metal or synthetic?

They're both metal and synthetic.

Falcon (AKA Ergo) makes the plastic parts. VLTOR puts rail mounts on the legs and calls them a "mod pod" and Tangodown attaches the legs to a mount and calls it their own bipod.

I've played with both the modpod and bipod, and they are made very very well.
