I just curious....I think my AR is heavier than most, but I am not sure because I have only held a few here and there. My AR has a 16" stainless steel barrel with daniel defense free float tube...with optics (ACOG) it weighs out to 12.4 lbs. Is this really heavy?

My lightweight OD Green build weighs in at 7 lbs 3 oz with an empty mag and EOTech 511 mounted. This is with a 14.5" lightweight barrel from CMMG and a MI two-piece free-float.

I have a 20" SPR build with a medcon barrel, Magpul PRS, YHM free-float, bipod, and scope and that one weighs close to 13 lbs.

Too much, LOL. Mine with an ACOG weighs in at just under 10lbs, 10rnds in the mag. That's about two pounds too much for safely operating the weapon one-handed, especially if I'm only using my left hand.

Compare that to my Steyr Scout which weighs a bantam 6.9lbs--that thing's so light it feels like a dowel rod!

My bull barrel AR is 13 pounds unloaded with a bipod, light and 4.5-18X56 scope. If I could do it over again I would have got it with a heavy barrel instead of a bull barrel because this thing is just way too heavy overall and it's really front heavy which makes unsupported aiming difficult.

I'm using a digital postal scale and a digital bicycle scale

out of my 6 ARs (all weights are empty without mags)

Lightest was a totally stripped M4-style with 14.5", ACE stock, m4 hanguards, iron sights at 6.5 lbs

most are 9-11 lbs loaded with all trimmings, ie Noveske N4 recon mid legth with M249 barrel, eotech 552, 3x magnifier, ctr, surefire 900a, magpul asap sling mount = 10.8 lbs

RRA A4 varmint 20" bull barrel, PRS stock, Harris bipod, ergo grip with palm pad was close to 13 lbs without optics, probably 15 lbs with scope

12.4 seems really heavy for your gun, what stock are you running? bull barrel or m4 contour?

I have a magpul 93b stock. I don't think it would make much of a difference though. I really think it is my barrel that makes most of the weight.

Yeah 93B and UBR are heavier stocks

Is your SS barrel heavy contour? or bull barrel?

My most recent build, of about two weeks ago, weights in at thirty four (34) pounds. Yes. THIRTY FOUR pounds for an AR-15.

Did you fill it with dark matter?:)

I just put a front grip on my AR and it helps keep it steady a lot, on my Walther G22 it didn't seem to make it any difference.
