If you have found some for sale please be kind and don't buy it all. And also let us know where you got it from.

I'll start it off.

I bought 1 box of Federal 550 round valve pack at the Colton Walmart for $14.65 OTD. This was on 4/3/09. There still was a few boxes left, but I don't know about now though.

If you are hard up for some, the San Berdoo Turner's had the 333 round boxes for about $20.

Also heard that the Victorville Big5 has the 500 round packs for about $22.

blech - if I am in WW it is for the ammo and if I see any Federal 550 I'm taking it all :P

The last three times I have stopped in I have been skunked.

There is still a bunch of fedral bulk at the walmart on Folsom Blv in sacramento. They also have a ton of different winchester rounds, but they dont shoot for @#$& out of any of my .22's so they are all yours :D. Same price as the previous post.

I also went in on a brick of wolf match target with a calgunner buddy and i think it was 49.99

Amen! I've shot a case or so without being able to restock my supply. So, when I find it, I'll buy what I need to bring my inventory back to what it was. I'm not hoarding just resupplying.

Will have to break down and pay Big 5's prices pretty soon. :(

The WW in Duarte has nothing in stock. Salesman says people swipe it up as soon as it hits the shelves. Gotta call in at 10pm daily to see if any has come in. My plinking supplies are low (still have bricks and bricks of Wolf, tho)....:(

BTW: Thanks for the Rimfire section, Kes!

Mwahahah I have it ALL at my house. lol J/K

I haven't bought ANY 22 ammo since the lead ban. I have over 15k rounds just sitting there for when I get the chance to pop some squirrels in the DMZ.

It is ALL American Eagle 38gr (400 pack individually packed in 40round boxes) and the King of Bulk pack 22lr Winchester Dynapoints.

If we ever have a squirrel invasion I am ready. :)

enough of the Walmart hunt. We're going to the FIL's cattle ranch for a week of ground squirrel hunting.

Who is selling mega bulk 5-10kish .22LR HP on the internet? I'll just buy a boatload and quit worrying about it for a bit.

My brother went into the Yuba City Walmart this morning, they has a bunch of 550 boxes of Federal. He grabbed a box, but when I asked him to go back and pick me up a box or two (a couple hours later), they were sold out. The only thing they had was 550 boxes of Remington Goldens, which are about $5 per box more. He bought a box of that and there were still several boxes left. This was just a couple hours ago.

I try to buy .22 ammo by the case. First of all, it's cheaper than the per box or per brick price. Also, the ammo is more consistent, good or bad, because it's from one lot.

This is where I've found some great deals in the past, although who knows what it's going to be like now or in the future. Their supplies change constantly, so if you don't see anything you like this month, check back.

http://www.thecmp.org/ammosales.htm

The description on the .22 ammo this time is kinda vague, but from the picture, I'm pretty sure it's Aguila SE standard velocity. It's target ammo, which is what I usually shoot. It's about $220 a case delivered, which isn't too bad. I remember getting this stuff for $100 less a couple of years ago.

To the guys that paid $50 a brick for Wolf Target, that is some great ammo. I think it's the same as the SK ammo another person is selling on the forum for $45 a brick. Just a couple of years ago, that stuff was about $20 a brick.

That was me and another guy on here. He just got a savage just like mine, but i never got a chance to try any wolf the last few times at the range. Couldnt find any local anywhere, tried seven stores . If it shoots as good as i hear, im gonna try to see if i can go in on a case with someone!

Wally world in Paso is out of the Federal and only has the Remington Bulk for $17ish a box. I did pick up 3 boxes of CCI mini mags (100) for $6.47 a box, not a great price but pretty much standard for that ammo.

I believe Big 5 has Fed 36gr Copper Plated HP for $19 (525) so its not too much more than WW. Oh, as someone mentioned, get the coupon by signing up for Big 5 emails on their site for a couple of bucks off!

I won't buy anymore for now, okay? I only buy the bulk packs at WalMart, and have enough for a year or so, if current shooting trends continue. If anyone goes to the Panoche shoot Saturday and needs a little for the day, I might even part with some at cost.

Big 5 sells all their .22lr ammo for a regular price of $22.99. When any of it goes on sale it sells at $19.99 unless there is a special coupon sale and I've seen it go lower.
Big 5 sells
-Remington Golden Bullet 525rd packs
-Federal Value Pack (blue box) 525rd packs
-American Eagle by Federal (red box) 400rd packs
-Western by Olin 500rd packs
-Winchester (I forget which style) 500rd packs

The email sign up for Big 5 gets you an automatic 10% off transaction coupon which applies to ammo and they send out other coupons randomly and a 20% one does go out from time to time that's good for ammo.

Just got some wolf and eley from champion shooters supply.
They are great to deal with, bought a couple of annie's from them also.
Wolf match extra, 500 for $65.00
Eley EPS match (black box) for $110.00
This is the cheapest I have found.
The shipping is less than what the tax would have been.
I'm sure that will change soon.

Can't find a single store in So cal area (including all Wally worlds) that have any Federal 550 value bricks. :(
I guess people are hoarding everything so they can put it up on gunbroker.

2 different local walmart employees i spoke to said before they imposed the ammo sales limit of 6. They have seen folks come in and buy $1k -$2k worth of ammo at a time. Jeez.

Patience, grasshoppers. Keep checking your regular sources and sooner or later you'll hit it. I check my local Walmarts at least 3-4 times a week, and far more often than not, I strike out. But every now and then, BLAMMO, I hit a home run and make up for the strike-outs. Just did tonite, as a matter of fact.

with the current situation - i've had to resort to trying new ammo that I don't normally use.

Problem is - my marlin 99 simply doesn't like a lot of what's out there. Only thing it seems to want to shoot reliably is Remington (good luck finding any) and CCI minimags (again, good luck).
The federal (and AE) is so-so, winchester and Aguila simply does not work. FC is nowhere to be found. Only things i've been able to come across don't work. :banghead:

A buddy and I went shooting this past weekend, then a another group of shooter's roll up and ask if they can shoot near us and we said sure thing. Towards the end we started talking more with them, let them shoot some some our guns they let us shoot some of their stuff, good times had by all.

They started talking about how they could not find any 22 ammo. So we gave them just about over a 150 rounds, plus my guns didn't really like that ammo anyway so no biggie.

Then later on that day we hit up the Redlands Walmart and guess what we find, the 333 Winny packs for $9.97. Just to let you know I've seen these same packs at Turner's for $15.99.

So morale of the story, if you do something good maybe you find what you are looking for.

With a 2 brick limit, they use to supply the Bay Area with a case of that meaning 10 bricks for $215 OTD I guess they figured they could make more money rationing it out and jacking the price. Yuba City Walmart now has a 2-item purchase limit. Lame, yes indeed. BUT, I think that limit is the reason my brother and I continue to find bulk packs there on a semi-regular basis.

Just last week I picked up four 500-round boxes of Fed Champion from the Marysville Wally World for $14.97 a box. Grabbed two 100-round bulk packs of Federal .223 while I was at it, $36.97 each, but those are VERY rare.

Yeah, probably the first time he's seen .22 ammo in months and he wanted to buy up whatever he could, six box limit, so you lie to the store and try to get him harassed? How is that something to brag about?

Yeah, probably the first time he's seen .22 ammo in months and he wanted to buy up whatever he could, six box limit, so you lie to the store and try to get him harassed? How is that something to brag about?

No the salesman said he will deplete the stock everytime they get a shipment and sell on GB. He is the main reason they have a 6 limit at this store. Some of these will get cought for selling without a resale lic.. I already know LE is now watching and have already busted a few people for selling hicap mags in CA.
My friends saw this thread and 2 of them came by my place to give my son a couple boxes so he shoot on his B-bay. Still good people out there.

Selling without a "resale license" isn't illegal, but apart from that, all the walmarts have the 6 item limit now. It's good you got ammo for your boy, I haven't seen any in walmart in months.

Also in the big ammo pile was .40 and Remington 00 buck. The .223 was XM193 for a not unreasonable price given the current market.

walmart in modesto on sisk had about 8 100 round boxes of cci minimags for 6.47 each. Also maximags, and the rest were shotgun shells. They said they get ammo in everyday, and have a 6 box limit posted. Idk if that meant the 100 rounds or if u could buy the 500rd boxes they came in, yet those were all open, probably so you can't buy 6 500rd packs.

Marysville Walmart got a sizable load last night, they had a bit of everything EXCEPT 22 bulk packs. If you needed 9mm, there were over 40 boxes of the Win 100 rounders. They were all gone by about 10 this morning. I grabbed 3 boxes of Blazer Brass in .40 and left everything else.

They got nothing tonite.

This past Friday, Turner's got their ammo in and was seeing 22lr on the tables there.

To the poster that lied to WalMart about the "shoplifter", I understand your feelings, but by lying, do you want to bring yourself to that guys level? I'd of probably given your kid a brick but to be honest, as I commonly sell/trade ammo among friends at non gouge rates, I might have not as if I had 6 bricks, 3 or so would go to others I know at cost.

I'd of at least tried to throw him part of a box, for free even maybe.

Also, I don't lying to Walmart about a possible shopluifter will work, they need to see him in the act to detain him I believe.

Highest gouge I have seen on a 50rd box of non special .22lr ammo like Lapua or Eley match, you shoud sit down know if you are not, ready?

$5.50 a box of 50 of Winchester .22lr ammo. Wow.

I think the bubble is bursting a little anyways, I've seen gouge rate Wolf and basic .22lr ammo sit most of a day or even two days know when put for sale at Turners or such.

I also heard Turners employees commenting in the store about holding ammo for themselves, like a brick or two of .22lr or for friends, sad. But haha, those bricks at Turners are like $28 a box!

I have yet to pay more than about $15 per 500 yet, I just am patient and wait and search. I don't always get the brands and such I want but I refuse to be gouged.

i didn't even know they made this? but whatever, its 500rds instead of 400. I've been buying the HP 400 rd packs since i was about 10 years old.

Thanks for posting that Mr. D. Saturday morning (5/16) at 7 AM I went by the Hwy 65 store and all the 9mils were gone. Drove over to the Lead Hill store and they still had 23 boxes of the Fed 325 pack Auto Match. I picked up 5 boxes. My Ruger Mark 1 loves the Auto Match ammo and the five boxes I bought in February were almost gone.

Not that great a price unless you have an actual need for stinger ammo. it's like $5.47 per 50 rounds I think at Wal Mart. Also some manufaturers frown on use of hyper velocity/stinger .22lr ammo. I'd keep it out of the cheapy or wierd model .22lr firearms.

I was at that Walmart on Mon as well, nothing really else.

I went to K MART in Norwalk on Rosecrans today. For those of you that don't mind paying the speculative/"gougy" rates some gunbroker and CG members are charging for .22lr bricks, they have 500rd bricks of Winchester dyna point .22lr at $30 as well.

Haha. Yea, I know. But I just don't want to pay $30+ for something I know I can get for $15 under "normal" conditions. I'd rather pay $21 for something that normally costs $21 than $20 for something that normally costs $15 ;).

Stupid I know, but at least I don't "feel" like I'm getting gouged :p. Sad thing, I don't even consider anything under $25 for Federal bulks gouging but I'd still rather do the $21/brick of something I've never shot just because that's what I'd normally pay for it.

joepamjohn
06-04-2009, 9:17 PM
We also normally, for years paid around paid $1.65 for a gallon of gas. I think it may be time to accept the facts that:

Obama, Democrats, Anti-Gunners & Recession = higher prices and (for now) less quantities of ammo. The days of $13.00 bricks of .22 LR are gone! If some of these pending senate bills do pass you will be begging your best buddy to sell you one of those $30.00 bricks he stashed away when he could, and if you want to shoot you will pay him dearly for it. Hence the hoarding frenzy.

snobord99
06-04-2009, 9:26 PM
Oh, no, I totally understand the concept of inflation, as well as the law of supply/demand; however, I also know that WalMart is still selling these bulks for about $15 when they have them. Just because I can't find them doesn't mean that $25+ is suddenly a "deal" for what is still, last time I checked, $15 ammo. Like I said, it may be stupid, but I'd rather pay "normal" retail than "gouged" retail even if "normal" is a buck or 2 more (obviously for different ammo). In any case, what I'm fairly happy with how much I paid for what I'm getting. Assuming I like what I'm getting in the first place on a non-price-related scale.

I should mention that I believe, a bit, in leaving some for the next guy. If I found 6 boxes at WalMart, I'd take all 6, but if there's a guy standing next to me also looking for that, I'd totally say "here, you take 3, I'll take 3" even if I got there first. I don't want to contribute to the incentive to buy up everything you can find just so you can resell it. I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but that doesn't mean I have to support it.

[QUOTE=snobord99;2585062] I also know that WalMart is still selling these bulks for about $15 when they have them.

That's the problem,"when they have them" and it is not too often based on what I see and read in these forums. If AB 962 passes, those $15.00 bricks will be just a campfire memory anyway.

Oh, wait a minute!!! We won't be able to have any campfires either since they are not green firendly........

Again, anyone recall what they are going for at the local shows (Crossroads)?

Is Rimfire harder to get than 45 acp or 40 cal (Be honest)

It all depends on what you want? I have seen more .40 & 22 rimfire than 45. But I have seen Wolf 45 for $20 a box at Turners as well as Winny 333 packs for $15.99 there too. But I think right now, quality 45 ACP is harder to come by.:(

It's not walmart pricing, and it requires paying shipping... but Midway has Federal 550 Packs for ~$20. I guess an upside is no sales tax. Limit of one box per order - probably why it's still available.

I was able to throw one into an order I've been meaning to place, but I probably wouldn't place an order for JUST this.

So Cal Guns in San Diego had about 200+ boxes of .45 for $23.50 last week, which is better than some of the gougers in the Marketplace.

Ceres WM will no longer sell a 6 box maximum, of the same ammo.

There is a sign stating "2 per box, and 6 box maximum mix and match" Something like that. I bought some on my way home today at like 9:30, so I was a little tired and may have read the sign wrong.

IF it was worded the same, technically, you could fight with them and get them to sell you 12 100 round boxes of mixed 22lr...lol.

I have taken this route before but it kind of sucks having to pay $3+ a box of 50 for weaker ammo that does not function in all of my .22lr handguns.

Luckily I also have a couple of handguns actually chambered in .22short only. I'd love one of those Remingtom Nylon 66's or a Browning .22 takedown chambered in .22short.

I did have fun recently firing some .22short in .22lr chambered revolvers. In a Ruger SP101 .22lr, recoil was about exactly zero.

Went into the Redding Walmart about 4 days ago at 1145 PM. There was literally a full pallet of ammo (none of it shotgun) I almost wet myself. The guy off loading the pallet was being a tool though and refused to allow me to buy any of it. I actually had to get the manager involved...

Bought 6 boxes of 9mm CCI blazer brass at exactly 1158 PM. Walked it out to my car, turned around and went back in. Bought 3 boxes of federal bulk pack 550 rounds 22lr (didn't want to be to greedy) at exactly 1210 AM ;) There were about 5 cases of 22LR federal fodder on the shelf. I came back just to see what they had left at noon the next day and they were out.... People are crazy. They had 9mm, 40S&W, 223 and 45ACP mixed in that shipment and it was all gone by noon the next day...

Just a hint, there are HUNDREDS of posts made every hour, the Staff is not going to see all of them.
If you have an issue each post has this in the upper right hand corner: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/images/buttons/report.gif It's called the Report Post button and it sends an email that alerts the Staff to problems.
Using it instead of flinging poo save everyone hassles.

But people call me out, I am not gunna just sit here and take it. PERIOD!
No, you're going to report it and let the Staff handle it or you're going to be banned, just like every other member on this forum.
If that doesn't fit your 'PERIOD!' just let me know and I'll cancel your account now.

In literal terms you are a guest in my house and I'm not in a game playing mood so either act like an adult and abide by the rules you agreed to when you joined or say the word and I'll solve the problem for you.
