View Full Version : GSG-5 owners: Is this right?

So I just picked my GSG-5 today and I can't wait to get to the range to put some rounds through it. I'm curious though, I noticed that if you have an empty magazine in the weapon and you pull the bolt all the way back (and it stays locked back), there's no way to release the bolt forward unless you take the magazine out. Is this normal? It may be completely normal... I may just be used to AR's and how they have a slide release on the left side above the trigger.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated... Thanks again!

I should also mention that the rifle has a magazine disconnect. Can't fire the weapon without a mag in the mag well.

OK, good to know its not me being a maroon... :D
Thanks for the input guys... does that seem kinda odd to anyone but me?

Curious, where did you buy it and how much?

I bought it from River City Gun Exchange In Sac (off of 99 and Fruitridge) for $550. It was $617 after tax and DROS. I just picked it up today... They had at least two more that I could see. One with the regular stock and one with the collapsible. The model with the collapsible stock is almost $100 bucks more though I think...

The collapsable stock is CA legal.

Almost all the folding stocks makes it illegal in CA.
The folding stock makes the GSG5 have an OAL less than 26", which makes it a SBR in CA.

Supposedly there is one type of folding stock that is CA legal, but I have yet to see/find it.

you can get a collapsible stock for it. cheaper than $100. you just need to choose if you want the GSG brand one that won't cover the ejector port fully collapsed? or a airsoft one that will cover it slightly but many have reporting no issues firing it that way.

ping me offline if you want do the screwset mod. I bought an extra one for a friend, who ended up already having it.

Yes, it's legal or we wouldn't be selling the A3 collapsible stocks. The folding stock is questionable since the overall length folded makes the rifle short enough to be considered an AW under Ca law (depending on what ruler you're using).

We don't sell the guns with the A3 collapsible stock installed. They're only sold as separate options.

We still have a reasonable amount of the GSG5 rifles in stock.

off subject but the gsg5 is a fun little plinker. It is actually pretty accurate with the stock iron sights. If your looking for one in the sacramento area, definately hit up river city gun exchange. That's where I got mine and their prices are reasonable considering I hear of bay area shops selling for $700+

River City is probably the best place in California to buy a GSG-5. Everywhere else I've been they're $700. I told at least 100 people at the gun show in Vallejo to go to RCGE and get the gun there.

That seems like a real weakness to me. You can't insert a cartridge into the open chamber, close it, and fire it, if you leave the mag inserted? Weird

I love it, got mine a few weeks ago and have shot about 350rds through it without a problem except a couple possible duds. Still debating whether to put a cheap optic on it, but probably will change out the stock to folding or collapsible. There's so many mods out there it's great!:gunsmilie:

I want to see this also. My first choice for a replacement stock was a side folder but it was just a tad to short. The collapsing stock I went with is good but almost everyone has them, I'd like mine to look a little different.

Before you buy it, that stock is NOT legal in California (without a special exception/permit/registration/stamp). It makes the overall length 25.25" (.75" short of the 26" legal minimum for rimfire rifles).

can you mod the release to work like a 10/22 that has the bolt release reworked to work like say a Mini 14?

ok good thing i asked then, i guess ill just leave the stock one on or get the collapsable that everyone else has. unless i can figure out a way to make that work
