View Full Version : Looking to try out shotguns
04-04-2009, 9:15 PM
I want to start shooting clay sports and buy my own semi-auto 12 gauge. I'm looking for someone who is willing to let me use their shotgun for a round or two of trap or to at least shoot some target loads with it.
The shotguns I'm interested in are (* = most interested):
*Benelli Super Sport 2
*Winchester Super X 3
As far as compensation, I'm willing to negotiate.
Shells, rounds of trap/skeet/etc., we can work something out.
I'd prefer the owner be there at the range or shooting location for legal reasons.

The provisions of 12078(d) PC do allow 'infrequent loans' of firearms for short durations between CA residents without supervision.
However, there is the restriction of "... between persons who are personally known to each other for any lawful purpose..."
So with that restriction. it's probably "un-good" to ask random people if you can borrow their shotgun and possess it out of their presence - and similarly "un-good" for someone not knowing you to lend the shotgun to you (with you using it out of their presence). Also, the "remuneration" offered (even though non-cash) may make this exchange more questionable as well.
Perhaps someone would be glad to accompany you to the range with their shotgun(s), or perhaps you could just bring some quality shells & biodegradable birds to the range and ask to try a few birds from folks' shotguns that look interesting to you as they wind down their session... shotgunners are a friendly bunch, I think, and would be glad to help.

Thanks for the concern.
I should state that was specifically talking about using the shotgun with the other person present, when they're going to be at the shooting location. I meant something along the lines of what you said, except that the person would be a Calgunner.
I'm not really the kind of person to just walk up and ask to use someones gun at the range, so I wanted to see if there was anyone from here first.
If the moderators think that it would be best to remove the thread, go ahead and do so.
