Dumb question. What makes this a "Match" barrel?

Dumb question. What makes this a "Match" barrel?

Because he said so!

Many think that heavy barrels means match!

That is internet acccepted practice.

Before internet it meant something different.

I don't get it, its SS for stainless steel, 1/9 for the twist, what is the "W" for. Its either that or its match M upside down.

SS = Stainless Steel Barrel? Or?????

1/9 is the barrel twist rate,

Thanks to a fellow Cal Gunner I now know what the W stands for:

The "W" stands for Wilde Chambered...which means you can shoot any ammo you want including the good high power stuff

I was told it was a match barrel when I bought the complete Factory Rifle years ago.

Is the compensator on the end of the barrel threaded on? How long is the compensator and how long is the barrel without it? Thanks.

Oh, nevermind. I see that the answer is right there in the first post (Dooh).

Actually the length of these barrels was just under the 16" legal limit. The flash suppressor was sleeved over the threaded bbl just adding the necessary legal lenth. Bbl's muzzle is just behind the flash suppressor slots

And YES...the stainless version bbls were Match bbls. I have all variations of Eagle Arms uppers and the factory confirmed it. The carry handle had national match sights and this was designated by a white dot just above the center of the elevation wheel. This configuration was made just before the 1994 ban and made it on to the grandfathered pre-ban Eagle Arms/Armalite rifles at the time...

Not my pics but just to give you an idea.....:
