View Full Version : I want a ccw, but I won't get one?

Okay, I am very aware of how hard it is to get a ccw, especially if you are just turning 21.

My problem is that I am handicapped. I have a slight limp when I walk, and I cannot run at all. A couple shady encounters in my town, the second safest town in California, have led me to want to exercise my rights. I really do not expect myself to ever need the gun, but I still fear for my own safety, and want to take precautions. LOL why am I explaining why I want one to you guys, you get it.

The reason I have this limp is because of a hip/femur replacement, because I had cancer a couple years ago. I am fully against milking it in any other situation, and I never use it as an excuse unless my health is of concern, but could this be my ticket to getting a ccw?

I have no idea what they look for, but if I wrote a nice little heartfelt letter, pulling the handicapped card at every turn, completely going against my standards, do you think a ccw could be just over the horizon?

I really hope I didn't offend anybody on here who has an ACTUAL handicap, but wouldn't use it to get a ccw, but could this kinda of thing be used to increase my chances?

What exactly is "the second safest town in California"?

I haven't applied yet, I am not old enough yet. Also the second safest city is Tracy, CA. I should have put quotes around that because it is probably an old figure, but ya know what, it's still a pretty safe town.

I have to push my son in a manual wheelchair. Despite the fact that I am not able to effectively retreat from an attacker when on foot I have been told that I have GC that will NOT fly in San Mateo county.

Tracy is not so safe. A lot of Bay Area crime is comin over the hill. Its been a while since interacting with TPD, but I cant remember them being CCW friendly and San Joaquin County is definately not your friend either.

The most important thing is to properly prepare to maximize your chances. Locate the folks on this forum that can help you with the "good cause" part of the application and get thier feelings on what you have posted. Some say that you only have one shot generally because when your denied, it goes in your DOJ jacket in Sac, but im not sure.

It wouldnt hurt to research how many permits Tracy has issued and maybe after getting your head on straight, speaking with whomever at TPD does the issuing and get thier feelings on it.

Good luck and let us know!

You can always Open Carry!

That would probably do more harm than good, as most people in my town are liberal hipsters bent on PEACE AND LOVE GUNS ONLY CAUSE VIOLENCE. So, for every person who saw me carrying a gun and was pleased, there would be ten who would go donate to the brady bunch...

Thank you for the advice guys. I know a few cops who are completely pro gun, so I will ask them what is up with them and if they can somehow help. I will still have to wait until I am 21 though...

That's not Tracy. Tracy is a combination of farmers (generally conservative) and Bay Area commuters (many quite liberal).

It always surprises me that San Joaquin County is not more pro-CCW given that it is traditionally an "ag" county. Hell, I want a CCW partially because I was cut twice growing up in Stockton.

Looks like you're in luck... San Joaquin County appears to be more CCW-friendly than many other CA counties.

I would suggest you check this map instead:

"No issue without special connections, very unlikely to issue."

You have as much right to a CCW permit as anyone else as long as you meet all the objective standards(Background check, training etc).

"Good Cause" is discriminatory.

That being said, apply for your permit when you are of age, during your interview I would mention the physical handicap and here is why.

The American Disability Act(ADA) requires reasonable accomadations be made to make things accessible for handicapped individuals so that they are not denied access.

Your handicap undermines your ability to defend yourself. Please bear in mind, there is not legal precedent on this so you would be among the first.

Hey, if businesses get sued regularly for not having handicapped bathrooms or other things to be accessible, why not sheriffs who deny access for ccws.

All CCW permits are supposed to be public record, especially the part about why the permit was issued, the good cause statement.

I say go for it.

ive often pondered this same question as i too am handicapped. I have muscular dystrophy and have had 5 ankle reconstructions in the past 3 to 4 years and now live with a spinal cord stimulator implanted in my lower back. I cant run and walking is sometimes difficult. as far as a hand to hand situation i think i could hold my own as i have in the past but in the coming years im sure this wont be the case.

I also had someone do a home invasion style break in at my house last year which was directly related to 2 gangbangers i had arrested in the begining of last year after they attempted to jump me and steal my stuff at a jack in the box restraunt on monument blvd in concord.

I think i would have pretty good cause and do have a clean background and wouldnt have a problem passing any training i would have to take.

hmmm..... any lawyers on here want some extra work:43:
