I was trying to figure out what to do with my 10,000th post on Calguns.net. I figure a quick retrospective sounds good.

Here is all the stuff I've had the pleasure to be a part of with this great community.

1. Buying my first 3 STAG-15's in February 2006 with my company group buy.

2. Opposing the memos - I still have a nice Russian SKS - Thanks Alison!

3. Opposing the "permanence regulation" during the APA process.

4. Finding out the NRA in California were actually quiet rock stars at the OLL public comments hearing. Meeting a whole bunch of now very close friends there.

5. Calling BS on Todd Lizotte's Microsoft style business models on the phone with him. Todd is Mr. I swear I'm pro-gun Microstamping...

6. Learning the PRA. Thanks Alison!

7. Helping transition CGN to Kestryll.

8. Getting my first call from Jason D while I was motoring my last vessel out of Discover Bay...

9. Getting to know Alan G.

10. Waiting impatiently for oral arguments in Parker.

11. Noticing that armored vehicle businesses had unique capabilities...

12. With some help, inventing and popularizing the bullet button.

13. Helping Prince-50 modify his bullet button to become the defacto standard.

14. Buying a couple of seized Milpitas lowers.

15. Explaining to Alison that she would be giving them back to me and others.

16. Using the OAL to remove the permanence memo after the rulemaking died. Thanks for the nice letter Mr. Brown.

17. Watching Parker become Heller.

18. Waiting at a movie theater for an FFL and a lawyer to return from Sacramento with 219 newly freed Milpitas lowers.

19. Throwing a massive party for the Milpitas lowers with guest of honor Matt Corwin. (PS. What would become CGF was formally introduced to many of the right people that night.)

20. Founding the CGF with an amazing group of folks.

21. Flying to DC for Heller.

22. Keeping a Calgunner warm in the camp out.

23. Having my hotel skip my wakeup call and missing the circus at SCOTUS.

24. Knowing we'd win Heller upon listening to the CSPAN version!

25. Dinner that night.

26. Driving down and attending the SOCAL BWO/Milpitas Party.

27. Reading Heller.

28. Post Heller spontaneous dinner (thanks H!)

29. Defending John Contos.

30. Defending Bright Spot Pawn.

31. Defending a UOC Marine on 7/4.

32. Finding out the original panel kept Nordyke.

33. Assisting with Nordyke.

34. Defending a host of OLL cases (more good news in two weeks!)

35. PACKING Nordyke and throwing a pretty darn good party.

36. "Capacity to accept" underground regulation.

37. "Non Rosterable Frames" underground regulation.

38. DC Handgun Roster case.

It's been a heck of a ride. It's just started, and I had to leave a lot of stuff out!

There is a thread in off topic that's exploring new CGF logos. In that a potential new slogan popped up. Vires ex Plures. Strength from the many. This community has become an amazing force!

Viva 10K!

Heh.

the_quark and I had packed cold weather gear as we thought we just might land in time to get in line. By the time we got in the cab we realized we weren't going to be in line soon enough to gaurantee a seat inside SCOTUS. So we decided to just get a hotel room (warm, non sore bones in the morning, etc.). However, one of the Calgunners from SOCAL who did get in line early enough didn't have enough stuff (sleeping back, gortex hat, etc) so we lent him ours and I let him have a few swigs out of my NRA flask too.

I hope you mean this kind of spooning...

http://agsas.org/howto/outdoor/

Spooning is an old term for bundling up together in bed like spoons placed together in the silver chest. It is an ancient practice as old as man kind itself. I had read about Civil War soldiers spooning in the field for warmth, similar to the 18th century custom of bundling, but never gave it much thought until practical experience taught me a valuable lesson.

William Hinman makes mention of this manner of sleeping several times in his all-encompassing American Civil War novel, "Si Klegg and His Pards". His description states that:

"At night they lay together on one blanket with the other as a cover. It is not probable that Solomon ever snuggled up to his ‘pard’ under a ‘pup’ tent; but he seems to have the correct idea when he wrote (Ecclesiastes 4:11): ‘Again, if two lie together, then they have heat; but how can one be warm alone?’ There were many times when they hugged each other like two pieces of sticking plaster, in the vain effort to generate heat enough for even a measurable degree of comfort."

There is a difference between ruling and reigning. Gene would probably get much more personal satisfaction out of being the puppet master than with having to open shopping malls, kiss babies, and generally be nice to idiots. The man behind the curtain can do as he pleases. :D

If we buy him big red robes, he could be Cardinal Richelieu. :43: Let's hope he avoids the Thirty Years War stuff though.
