Thanks to the 2 members who sent me PMs offering to assist me in taking advantage of the $300.00 promotion. The NRA said I had to be a family member of a life member, so I willingly took advantage of the 1/2 off price for the life upgrade.

As far as all the mail I have been receiving from NRA, I look at it as it being a helluvalot better (and necessary) than the subprime thug gotcha scheme credit card offers I usually have fun shreding with my bare hands.

I don't understand the purpose of life membership in the NRA.

I am a member. I feel that my annual dues are the vote of confidence that I give the NRA. They have no reason to listen to me if there is not the thought that if they anger me or disappoint me, I may not renew my membership next time around. Sure, my one set of dues won't make much of a dent, but if they anger enough of us... like they say, money talks B$ walks.

Ok maybe there are some "perks" of membership. To me, that can't compare with having a voice, a voice that will be heard in the only language they understand... money.

I was very angry at them for a few years. I withheld my membership. Now, post-Heller, I am giving them another chance... a chance to show me that they can accomplish something tangible. It is a gesture of faith. If they blow it, I will not have much use for them. If in 2 years they have not shown some very positive movement, then I am seriously thinking of, instead of annual dues, sending them a mock-check made out for the amount of the dues... made payable to Alan Gura. Maybe that will give them a message that they didn't get when they had the chance.

You can call the phone number on the back of your NRA card and ask the member services rep to put you on the "DO NOT PROMOTE" list. All of the NRA junk mail will stop. If you miss the junk mail then you can always sign up for email alerts. This will save the NRA the cost of the paper mailings.

Still waiting on my paperwork. They mixed up my stuff, paid back around December, but I talked to them on the phone a week or two ago and they should have it fixed and inthe mail any day now!

Life members get to vote in the board elections. This is more voice than $35 in annual dues.

The NRA still needs money each year to do their job and the annual dues payers help provide that. Adding endorsements to your life membership also helps NRA generate revenue and there are plenty of other opportunities to give as positive feedback.

Congrats! I got mine in February thanks to a great and close friend. Before that I was a 5 year member plan.

If you are angry with the NRA for what their political wing is doing in any particular year, then just pretend that for that year your life membership is only supporting...

competitions and matches
Eddie the Eagle program
firearm training
hunter education
shooting range developement
National Firearms Museum
youth programs
pissing off Diane Feinstein

Unless you feel that all of those programs aren't doing enough good to deserve your support either.
