I was pleased when Ahrends started selling their Retro Combats (http://ahrendsgripsusa.com/retro.htm); I ordered two pairs and I'm a big fan -- the round butt Combats spend the day on my 627-0 at Panoche and they are a joy to shoot! I think the Square Butt conversion grips will probably live permanently on my new 29-5.

The Round Butt are Cocobolo, and the Round-to-Square Butt conversion grips are Moradillo.

They don't have quite the funky contours of the S&W Combats (which is a good thing, IMO) and so are very comfortable to shoot. Please note I left the grip screws out as I was changing the grips for the photographs...

cheers,
Neill

Very nice grips there Trashman.

I've got a few candidates for those.

Dang, .44 magnum out of that little guy must be a riot to shoot.

Dang, .44 magnum out of that little guy must be a riot to shoot.

Yes it is. A blinding-flash-of-light, wrist-snapping, ka-boom-ish sounding riot.

:83:

It's my primary backpacking piece. I can also take medium-sized game, hammer tent stakes, signal aircraft, and start forest fires with it...
