View Full Version : Ruger Mark I problems

I bought this used Mk.1 some time ago and I've consistently have had problems with getting the expended casings out of the chamber.

It will either not extract the spent round and try to feed another one into it, or not feed the next round at all, or partially extract the spent round and feed another one.

I've tried different ammo brands, always using a name brand.

Any suggestions or hints on how to resolve the problem?

I would highly recomend a good strip down cleaning. Usually ruger 22 semi autos will digest about everything. Sounds to me like you have some grime built up somewhere causing things to slow down the action during cycling.

The chambers on 22 semi autos are notorious for picking up grime.

What does the extractor look like? That's an older gun and the edge may have worn over the years.

It's an easy and relatively inexpensive fix. I think you can even get a titanium extractor if you feel the urge.

Is there a way to tell how old this pistol is?

Yes there is a Ruger forum/board (Found out mine is a 1954 Mk 1 standard and that my International 10/22 is a commenrative 1994) they go by serial #'s I think) find the link at Rimfire Central (Forum/Board)
