I have an 870 that I am going to turn into my home defense gun.
What are the laws as to barrel length, overall length and folding stock?
Any other big do's and don'ts?
Thanks
Vic

An 870 is a pump action shotgun so it is not generally subject to CA's AW laws - which only deal with semiautomatics. (Oh one other thing - it can't be fitted with a revolving cylinder, whether semiauto or not, so I think you have to stay away from some of those Knoxx adapters.)
As a pump action, it can have a folding stock or even no stock at all (i.e., pistol grip only, like the "Mossberg Cruisers").
The barrel just needs to be 18" min length for shotguns, and the overall length of the 870 needs to be the usual 26" minimum.
ATF standards for barrel length involve measuring from the breech face.

Sorry, edited back to 'pump'.
(It's 'pimp action' if it's plated in a mix of chrome and titanium nitride and has fake pearl pistol grip.)

Fixed it.

The Knoxx uses a rotary magazine like a 10/22 10-rounder, no rotating cylinder. Should be good to go.

I don't think that applies to drum mags like the Knoxx. Hell, Knoxx was located in Oxnard or somewhere like that when they came out w/ those (well after the ban) and sold them to folks in CA so I sort of doubt they fell under that clause.

12276.1(a)(8) bans "Any shotgun with a revolving cylinder".
Yea, I guesss if the Knoxx is just a drum it'd not be a revolving cylinder.
