911 calls go unanswered as Parker County woman tries to report intruder (http://www.dallasnews.com/video/index.html?nvid=339049&shu=1)

After dialing 911 several times with no answer, Laverne Hokett called her daughter, Deborah Turpin, who lives nearby. Hokett then tried 911 again as the man inside her home screamed. (WFAA-TV) Story

HA, I'd like to see her try and shoot that thing. She has a walker infront of her! As any fan of Public Enemy knows, 911 is a joke. I would have held him at gun point too, I don't want to sully my carpet.

Not everyone has the benefit of living in an area with quick response times. Other times, it may just be because it's super busy out. Don't even get me started on people who don't have house numbers and are out in the sticks. It's not so bad on a residential street lined with houses....but the ones that are spread out with few neighbors...:banghead::banghead::banghead:

What took you so long?.....yeah ok....would have been here 10 minutes sooner had you had a f'n house number.

It's almost comical....fire engines, ambulance....squad cars all driving around seemingly aimlessly with lights going on looking for numbnuts house.

I like the part about "cell phone calls can take up to 30 seconds for them to connect to a dispatcher".

13 minutes response time is probably pretty good, however, this is just another example of "when seconds count cops are minutes away"!

Well 13 minutes may be a long response time for an in progress burg depending on where you live though, city or county.

As for not getting though after several calls, well that ones easy, any idea how many people misuse 911.

OMFG...911 Police and Medical Emergencys...

"hey i couldnt find the regular police number"
"not an emergency but my neighbor's dog has been barking all night"
"so someone broke into my car early this afternoon and stole my ..."
"so my roommate has a friend over that I dont like can you make them leave"
"do you know when the power will be back on, I cant see in my house"
"I am heading to the coast what are the road like"
"hey I ran out of gas can an officer bring me some"

And to call from a cell phone doesnt help matters much, do you know how many people dont know their address or where they are or their own phone number, you have all see the commercials "Can you hear me know"..teh parents who let there kids play with the old phones, well they still dial and connect to 911.

Add to any of that an actual in progress disturbance, domestic, fight, shots fired and accident the the phones are non stop.

Wow, I feel better now. Glad she is alright

Maybe she should just mount the thing like a turret? That would be funny. A granny with a walker adorned with a bell, basket, knitting stuff and a mounted MG! I wonder if she could knit cozzies for our guns? :D

I have many LEO friends, and have a great respect for most LEOs. Everyone in the LE community understands that they are unable to prevent crimes from occurring. Anyone who believes that 911 is a magic number we can dial and get instant help is delusional. 911 is a roll of the dice at best under the best circumstances. Needless to say LE, and fire will be overwhelmed by any type of widespread emergency (LA Riots, Katrina, etc.). Self reliance training (First aid, CPR, Firearms Training) is part of our civic duty as citizens. This allows us to deal with issues on our own in order to help ourselves, our families, neighbors, and friends.

Nicki, I never realized that the homicide rate for transgender people was so high. I think people with traditionally liberal political views like minorities have done themselves a great disservice by continuing to support candidates whose main agendas are to erode their freedoms, and ability to protect themselves. Keep up the good work.

Nobody has mentioned yet that everyone should have their local police/sheriff dispatch desk telephone number either programmed into their phones or pinned on the wall nearby.

Often much faster than 911, especially when calling from a cellphone (which goes through a CHP central office where they've possibly never heard of your town, let alone the street number.)

Call 911 in LA county and you will hear "all operators are currently busy, please stand by" At least 2 or 3 times a day 911 dispatch gets bogged down. Now add in earthquake, wildland fire, etc etc...you will never get through to 911.

Opponets of 2A claim there is no need for firearms since police will come to rescule you. These are examples of the failures of that system.

Huh?
How many times did you heard antis arguing that in a civilized society we don't need guns because the cops are paid to protect us?

Another Call 911 And Die (http://transsylvaniaphoenix.blogspot.com/2009/03/dial-911-and-die.html) (click link, then play button to listen)
This time it is a pro-gun ad that mentions Dianne Feinstein - and not in a flattering way.

911 is a joke. This reminds me of an incident the other day. My girlfriend was on the freeway and some guy was harassing her. When she just ignored him he became angry and starting trying to run her off the road and get in front of her and brake check her, and would block her when she tried to pass and get away. She called 911 and and asked the dispatcher to send someone out and the dispatcher said they weren't going to and to just try to get away from him. Good thing she finally managed to take and off ramp real quick and get away.

I can't tell you how many times I've monitored emergency 911 calls when the 911 operator asks the victim caller what his physical address and nearest cross street is, they say. "Umm P.O. Box 123."

The vary concept of 911 escapes me. If you're in a dire emergency, rather than ACTING YOURSELF to save yourself or someone you care about... You instead pick up a phone and ask some one else on the other end to help you?

Well it's always good to get the cavalry rolling as soon as you can. You're just own your own until they get there.

hey, that's what they've been paying taxes for right. and all their votes for guns control/help gun grabbers. I'd say if they aren't armed, that's their bad, their choice. They'd chosed the unarmed sheeple side- depending on someone else for protection/help. Like a buddy of mines who's totally afraid of real weapons, but plays with airsoft toys like a pro. I ask him what he's going to use in self defense in an emergency, he says "don't need it, cops will come"...I just laugh, what a dumba**, "just the kind that can talk the talk but can't walk the walk".

In addition, calling 911 shows that you took all the steps you could to have things handled the "right" way. If the cops couldn't get there in time, what choice did you have BUT to plug the rascally varmint?

P.S. Thanks, gazzavc for confirming it was a Boyes.
