I went to the local hardware store for a part I needed to fix the plumbing in my bathroom. I pulled into the parking lot, into the only space left.

I thought they were having some sort of sale or something, until I actully got into the store.

The plumbing stuff is right past the gun counter.

Looked like the busiest place in the whole town. People looking at guns, filling out paperwork for guns, picking up guns.

Had to have been about 15 people at this tiny little gun counter.

Everyone is buying whatever they can get their hands on.

What did you pick up?

What did you pick up?

A shut off valve for the cold water line to the bathroom sink.

I have my guns already. I am regularly stocking up on ammo every payday.

karls is like a time warp...it's a "hardware" store from back in the 50's..it has some of everything, and sells guns and ammo..Great place that isn't well known unless you are local.

I've never heard of it, it sounds awesome though. Like it probably has a sawdust floor. Whereabouts is it?

We had a place like this in the santa clarita valley... "Newhall Hardware"... great shop... you could find anything there and it was jam packed full of stuff and sold guns as well... i used to love going there!... they are trying to revamp that street to be a shopping district like downtown pasadena and the city is just forcing people out... really sad.

I remember a little hardware store in San Bruno that carried guns until the early 80's.

And my wife wonders why it takes me 2 hours to go to the hardware store for a roll of Duct tape and a box of wood screws. :D

Does Karls deal with OLL's? Never been there myself.

I stopped in there to pick up some ammo for some desert shooting about 2 years ago. It's a neat little place. As I recall they are not OLL friendly, but not rude about it. Hopefully their stance on OLL's has changed since then.

Karls also charges a $175 "labor" fee, in addition to the DROS fees, for online orders. eff that, they can pound sand. They did motivate me to get my C&R license and never shop there again.

Uhm, last time I was there for a PPT of an OLL it was quite colorful.

Almost got into a fist fight with another customer because he muzzle swept me and I told him to knock it off, then he tried to convince the staff OLL's were illegal, even though he owns them and the shop is selling them.

People behind the counter spout off 1/2 truth and some little FUD, idiot customer spouts off more, and everyone agrees.

PPT took 2 hours to complete, they have a store policy of 12 days before you can pick up a completed DROS.

Short end of it... they're 15 minutes from me, and I still drive 100 miles to go to a decent shop with good people.

I was in Michigan back in July. My Brother took me to the local Hardware & Guns store. Dang! They had 12 S&W AR's & about 12 other brands of AR. Touched a lot of stuff that would make me a Felon in KALifornia...:D

In El Cajon (San Diego), there's a place called Hiram's Guns and Spirits. Case of beer, case of ammo. You're one stop shop! Haven't been there in years.

That's fantastic! I have to travel to Edwards AFB for work periodically so will have to make a swing through there...

Amazing. There still exists combo stores like that of yesteryear?!?!

I've only heard the stories of gas stations and bait shops, and Sears, and Woolworths that sold guns and other stuff.

Great to hear.

Back home they are a dime a dozen. Then again, they still have gun stores there too. I have yet to set foot into a real gun store in cali and am not going to hold my breath. Thank God I have less than 9 months left in this abomination of a state.

Been there, it's OK. Friendly but not too friendly, if they had what I wanted I buy it there, but for now I'll stay with the Gun Shop in Lancaster, never had any problems there and while your gun is in dros holding you can take it downstairs and shoot it with no range fee.

Just make sure you have a tetanus shot before you go. If the store front is any idicator, the range is probably a disaster to.

I called the Gun Shop a few weeks ago looking for a Russian M44. The guy said he thought they had some and ran in the back to look, came back to the phone and said they had 3. I asked how much and what the dates were and he didn't know

Drove down the next day to take a look. Walked in and thought I had gone into the wrong building till I saw all the bubbas at the counter and the pebble grain Mosin ammo pouch that comes with the russian rifles from Century for sale for $15. Most of the guns on the racks were ghetto junk. Found the three Russian rifles they said they had. Weren't M44s though, they were 1891/30s with over a 100% markup... Another waste of gas.
