Who has experience with shooting either a Daewoo DP-51 9mm or DH-40? I have read good things about them in other blogs. I know The Republic of Korea Army (ROK Army, ROKA, Korean: 대한민국 육군, Hanja: 大韓民國 陸軍) takes their s*** very seriously.

Their rifles look pretty good too.

Here is some links with more details.

It's a copy of S&W 56(?) IIRC, and there are better choices for sidearms IMO.

Why do you think so? It looks interesting and the prices seemed pretty reasonable. However, I understand--you get what you pay for.

When they were going for $200 there were NO BETTER CHOICES in that price range. The Daewoo I have played with were all very well made, at least as well made as a CZ or a Glock and functioned flawlessly. I prefer the DP-51 to the DH-40, maybe it's personal bias but the DP-51 just seems to be a bit better put together than the DH-40. Both of them had average triggers, exactly what you would expect form a service side arms. Accuracy is not that great compared to a basic Glock but it wasn't much worse.

If you can get them for the $300 range definitely jump on it as they're nice and interesting pistols to own.

When I was reading old blogs I was surprised at the relatively low prices. What sucks is that they are not on the DOJ approved list--figures. Who knows, someone in Cali may want to give one up. It seems with the economy people are throwing their sidearms overboard for quick cash.

I've been trying to find one to PPT. Haven't been able to find one close enough for the last 4 yrs. :-(

Had one for quite a while and sold it not too long along. While it it true that the DP51 takes S&W mags there are many differences. It did also have a Fast Action trigger system or you could carry in Condition One. With the Fast Action trigger you would rack a round in the chamber then push the hammer forward into the down position, the trigger would return to the decocked position but the mainspring would be fully compressed. When you then pull the trigger back, the hammer pops to fullcock with VERY little trigger pressure (like 2lbs). Somewhat similar to the Para LDA system but only for the first shot. All other shots are singleaction, until you push the hammer down.

OR you could carefully uncock the pistol by pulling the trigger and lowering the hammer and then it would be a conventional DA semi-auto.

I thought the machining was quite decent and everything fit and functioned well. The finish was abit more matte than the top tier pistols but nothing wrong with it. The only reason I sold it was someone wanted it more than me and it was a safe queen for me. So I let it go.

I'm looking to get a DP-51 as well.
Figured I needed at least one firearm made in the country I was born in. :p

DaeWoo has been making firearms longer than they have been making cars and electronics.

Not even close to a S&W 56. Yes, you can modify a 56 mag to working the DP-51, but the internals are not even close. The woo had a "fast action" type trigger, I believe it is the only gun with this type of trigger.
