Hey guys, I need to send a lower to a very good friend of mine up in the Bay Area. He lives in Oakland. Who's a good FFL that can receive the firearm and do the transfer for him that is OLL-friendly and charges around 50$?

I don't want him to get gouged on the transfer fees. He's not really a gun person, but wants a lower for "insurance" like everyone else these days. He had a place lined up in Martinez but it was something like 85$ for the transfer. I told him I should be able to find him a place that will do it for 50$.

Good luck. I don't know what it is with these California FFL's, but NONE of them (that I have found) are the slightest bit interested in doing a transfer for a reasonable fee. Most of the time they piss and moan if you even ask, then quote some insane price (I've been quoted as high as $125). I think asking for a transfer is like a slap in the face, because the dealer wants you to buy from HIM. If you're transfering in, he isn't making the sale. I dunno.

Disclaimer-- no offense to any transfer-friendly dealers out there, I'm only speaking from my NorCal experience.

^^^Yea i feel the same way, it's like you're walking into a Ford dealership and asking if they can bring in a Chevy or something

There are no FFLs in Oakland. Irvington Arms in Freemont will be your best bet.

I've only worked with Irvington Arms, but there are other FFL's who will charge less; Rogers' Relics is well spoken of- call to make an appointment first, J&R sports looks inexpensive, probably worth calling around...
We buy guns up here all the time.

Must be a NorCal thing. There's plenty of FFL's down here in SoCal (or at least in the Orange County area) that do it for $50 + DROS.

The closest shop near Oakland is probably Castro Valley Gun Shop in Castro Valley, just south of Oakland.

Castro Valley being OLL OK is quite welcome news to me!

Sorry to send someone to Freemont (though the Irvington guys do rock.)

Thanks a ton for the help guys. I called a few places in the thread that was linked and found RMB Enterprises. 40$ for the transfer, so 65$ total. OLL Friendly.

I got the lower shipped out to my buddy this morning.

Ha. That's the milpitas lower FFL. A bit further from Oakland than Irvington, but Rob loves Calguns.

Yeah, but Irvington Arms quoted me 125$ (or was it 150$?) for a transfer. I very politely said "thank you" and then immediately hung up.
