Is there a particular thing you want to discuss, or do you just wanna find out who all has one?

I've put about a 1000 rounds through mine so far, and have only had one FTE. It was with a crappy reload at an indoor facility here in Palmdale...

with Winchester/Blazer/Remington I've never had a single problem.

Nothing really to discuss, just looking at them. Actually trading my USP 45 for a p2000sk and need to get a 1911 after that to have a replacement 45. Lot of people seem to be happy with them. Just wanted to try it out and see what it's all about.

I love my M&P and can't imagine any other semi-auto I'd rather have. Of course I wouldn't mind something smaller to carry..and something with factory sights because the speed shooters specialty FO sight I have on this thing snags my belly band if I don't draw from it the right way. Otherwise, for a full size, it's quite comfortable to carry..large grip and all! Sitting can put it against my side and be uncomfortable after a while..so instead, I'll just put it under the seat or in the door compartment until I reach a destination if driving.

Hey I picked up my MP9 yesterday instead of today, since the 10 24 hour period was actually up yesterday at noon. took it down to the elk grove range just to try it out, had fun, then went home and cleaned it 4 times just to make sure I knew as much about how it works as I could, so far love it, I wanted to buff up the trigger a little cuss i herd it makes it shoot better but i hear I won't be allowed to shot IDPA if I do, so I guess I'll just have to shot it more and wear it in.

I wanted to buff up the trigger a little cuss i herd it makes it shoot better but i hear I won't be allowed to shot IDPA if I do, so I guess I'll just have to shot it more and wear it in.

I had a 9c for a spell and the trigger got better the more I shot it. I also used snap-caps and would just sit in front of the TV some nights resetting and pulling the trigger. Trigger felt like butter eventually, but I decided to sell it because I just couldn't get a confident grip on it from concealed carry. Your mileage may vary.

Looking for some 10 round magazines for a 40 if anyone has an extra or knows where I can get one in the bay area.

021410 EDIT: Found a 10 round magazine at City Arms for $40 OTD. Not the BEST deal but good enough prices in the store to make me go back for more goodies. Looking forward to getting some ammo and heading to the range.

Nice.

I just took mine to the range yesterday for the first time. Went through 300 rounds, zero issues and shot great. The recoil in .40 is great with the M&P platform, im very happy.

Now I have my eye on getting a M&P compact.

just picked up my m&p 9 today, and it feels great. went to the range and put 200 rounds through. no problems of any kind but it was all FMJ ammo so that isn't saying much.

stopped by the Fresno gun show between picking up the gun and going to the range hoping to find some Ranger T or federal HST to see how it fares with some good defense ammo, but there wasn't a box of either from any booth. nuts.

maybe i'll post a few pics later on this evening.

compared to the XD45 that i had for a few years and sold, the M&P is a hands down winner in every aspect but the trigger. When people say it's gritty, i think they're being very forgiving to exactly how gritty it is! the pull weight is to my liking, but the grittiness makes the trigger as a whole almost as bad as my mossberg 590a1. some apex tactical parts should fix my trigger complaints right up though.

all in all, more than satisfied with my purchase, and can't wait to get the apex parts dropped in.

Congratulations! Apex Tactical parts are a must IMO and I think my FS9 prefers hotter Nato spec ammo like 124gr Ranger-T +P and CCI Lawmen but did not seem to like 147gr PDX1 which I 'was' going to switch to since I had access to it.

+1 on the Apex stuff.

I just picked up my M&P 45 last night and, before shooting a single shot, I put in the CDAEK kit. It makes a hugh difference in the break, greatly minimizes the over travel, and just smoothes out the whole motion. Best $90 I've ever spent on a gun (aside from training, of course ;))

An X300 is on it's was as is a set of Novak night sights since I didn't like the warren tactical setup.

I have the M&P40 as well as M&P40c. Both shoot great. I can say it pretty much fires identical. My plans is the compact to be used for HD and the full-size for IDPA with a few changes. Planning on apex kit with a storm lake match barrel in 9mm. Once that project is done I'll post.

Happy shooting

If there's one thing I love other than a 1911 it would have to be the M&P.
Trying to get my hands on a 9mm compact.
More importantly would anyone know where I could get a pro length slide for the 9mm?

Picked it up and shot it today. I love this gun already, though I need a little more practice with it. My first groups with this thing were absolutely terrible, and I had an RSO who was also interested in the M&P9 fire the gun so I could figure out if it was the gun that was having problems, or if I was just a bad shot with it, and he was making some great groups with it. This being my first handgun, I need more practice!

Just installed most of the Apex DCAEK kit myself. It was actually pretty easily overall, and I don't even really have the right tools. I installed the new hard sear, sear plunger spring, and trigger spring. Honestly it was $60 for a few VERY tiny pieces of metal, and I feel somewhat ripped off when I think that it probably only cost them $1 worth of material to make, but I also know that there was plenty of R&D behind the design which is what most of the cost is. After having installed it on my gun and feeling the difference, even without the ultimate striker block, the trigger feels amazing now.

So how could you feel ripped off when there's literally hundreds of hours of R&D, patents, insurance, payroll, rent, etc? 17-4 Stainless is not easy to machine and is a high grade steel so your estimates on part costs are silly. The alternative is to send it to a smith where they reshape your stock sear for the same $ plus you pay a hefty charge for shipping overnight and insurance both ways.

Just when you look at the amount you're paying for the tiny objects you're getting. I know all that you mentioned costs a lot of money, but I can't help but feel like a couple tiny pieces of metal, regardless of how intricate or how much design hours went into them cost too much in the end. I'm just looking at this in terms of actual size of the object vs how much money they cost. I know you can't realistically look at products that way, but stuff this small just makes it difficult not to.

Look at it this way, a multi-million dollar company like Smith and Wesson couldn't make the same trigger for the price point that the M&P goes for and charges $110 for 5 minutes of dremeling, installing their sear and test firing it but then you factor in the $60 each way for shipping.

http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Category4_750001_750051_757909_-1_757776_757751_image

Gunsmith's rarely get rich in their profession and when you also factor in the cost of ammo for testing, liability insurance and that they test some of their parts to 100,000 repitiotions from a shop of three people it all seems a bargain IMO. If the costs bother you than pull them out of your gun and sell them immediately since you have a difficult time understanding how small business works. Basing it on its size is silly considering how important these parts are to make sure a firearm fires reliably which can be a life or death experience.

Wow that looks really nice, much better than the "crayon" filled ones I've seen. How'd you paint it and then have no over spill? Did you just paint it and spill over and then use rubbing alcohol to clean up the spots? Any tips would be appreciated, I'm contemplating doing something like that. What kind of paint is it in the lettering and on the front sight?

I just painted over all of it and cleaned up with some nail polish remover. It takes a long time but it's worth it, as you can see. Lots of Q-tips, and patience is required to do it. If you overdo the nail polish remover while cleaning up, you'll end up taking too much paint out of the engraving, and you'll have to either start all over or touch it up. Took me a total of about 3 hours for both sides of the slide.

I used just regular nail polish for the lettering, and for the sights I went to Michaels and bought some acrylic glow in the dark paint. The front sight is neon orange and the rear sights are neon green.

Yep, same thing happened to my M&P. I think it's fairly common that the white paint S&W uses for their sights just pop out easily. After my right side rear dot fell out, I scraped the left side out and repainted with white nail polish. And then the acrylic glow in the dark paint over that. The paints work better with a white background than on black.

Just picked up a pair of M&P9s the other week. After putting over 7k rounds thru my XD in various training classes and environments, I've learned some limitations of the platform and started to look for other systems.

While I will still carry my XD9 for a bit longer (since I'm aware of and can work around its limitations),the M&P9 compact will become my daily carry. I want to put at least 600 rounds thru her in various environments till I trust her. I had a local machine shop mill slide serrations to facilitate handling and the rear milled to accommodate a Trijicon RMR. The same shop also modified the trigger group to reduce pull, shorten the reset and make the reset more positive. With a wood burning kit I stippled my contact points on the grip and I removed some material below the trigger guard for fit.

The last modification I will make to the gun will be to have it milled to accept suppressor sights as a BUIS. With an MRD it takes a while to break the habit of lining up sights. I'll have the sights installed once I'm proficient drawing with the dot.

The full size M&P also received the serrations, trigger job and was milled for a J-point MRD. This gun is my secondary weapon for when I'm carrying a long gun, so the durability requirements were not as strong. Also, the jpoint has a notch in the rear that serves as a rough BUIS for those really bad days. Did the same stipple and material removal on the grip.

For folks interested in the serrations on the slide side/top or for melting in an MRD, I strongly recommend American Tool & Manufacturing in Taylor, MI. Give me a holler if you need a POC there. Turnaround is much quicker and cheaper than other places that do this work. They are CA friendly as well.

Those look pretty sweet. Do you carry them with the reflex sights on as well though? Seems like it might add a bit of bulk to carrying it daily.

The optics will stay on permanently. Milling the slide to accept the MRDs removes the rear sight mounting points completely. This is the price to pay if you want to minimize the height over bore. Some brands make a platform/adapter that will allow you to mount the MRD without permanent mods to the slide. The height, however, makes them feel awkward to me.

The j-point is the lowest profile MRD on the market. I'm in the process of cutting up my Safariland holster so that it will fit.

The RMR doesn't seem to add much bulk to the overall profile. While my Raven holster has not arrived, it seems to fit well on the other folks I know that have similar configurations.

I was actually planning on waiting for the forward sitting sear / revised trigger bar to come out (I have long fingers). Definitely planning on getting the RAM & working the stock trigger some though. Is the extractor necessary on all revisions of the pistol? I thought S&W fixed the later released pistols.

Probably not, but this thing will probably outlive the rest of the gun

Mine with an idiot light, LaserMax Guide Rod Laser. Helps me acquire the targets I missed 3x times faster, LOL... Other than that, stock .40S&W.

Have you had a chance to put many rounds through it? How is the LaserMax holding up?

Just when you look at the amount you're paying for the tiny objects you're getting. I know all that you mentioned costs a lot of money, but I can't help but feel like a couple tiny pieces of metal, regardless of how intricate or how much design hours went into them cost too much in the end. I'm just looking at this in terms of actual size of the object vs how much money they cost. I know you can't realistically look at products that way, but stuff this small just makes it difficult not to.

When you reach that age in life when certain body parts don't function quite as well as they used to will you also complain that the blue pill you paid $3 for only cost 3 cents to make?

I'm seriously looking at an M&P 9 as my next purchase . . . And if things keep going the way they are, I could be able to pick up an L or "Pro" through inter-familial transfer . . .
The only difference between the two appears to be the "Pro" has a fiber optic front sight.
Are their any other differences I can't determine from looking at the S&W website?

Hi guys, lately I been looking at a few Sub-com/9mm and S&W MP 9 looks pretty good. This afternoon I went to Martin Retting's to actually checked it out. Very nice gun indeed, especially for a southpaws like myself. I think it's between MP9's C and XD Sub.9:D
If anyone's here has comments regarding these fine pistols I could use some more feedbacks if possible. Thanks in advance.

are you the one who did a special order of the two-tone M&P9 (pro) via Valkyrie arms? how did they procure it... via Cabela's? that thing looks great!

i was pondering trying to get one of those while they still exist (limited run back in 2009).

if you don't mind saying... how much OTD was it? ;)

What is that Polished?

i believe that is the limited "cabela's exclusive" run of two-tone stainless slide M&P9 pistols from 2009. remember, the M&P is stainless steel under that black finish. :D

Smarter PM'ed me that the production date (test fire) on his pistol is 5/2010, so that doesn't jive with the 2009 Cabela's run. Not sure what the backstory is with the bi-tone guns that VA got. I might have to procure one as a subject for further study... :D

M&P40 Pro with 5" slide is not of the CA Roster. That doesn't mean you can't get one, you just have to find a store that will do a single shot conversion for you. If you're in the Bay Area, Valkyrie Arms will do this. I have a 9 Pro with 5" slide, and it's the same deal...not on the roster. Valkyrie did the single shot conversion on it, and I was good to go.

Just for fun, this is what my 9 Pro looked like in "single shot" state:
http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj30/NorCalEinstein/2011-01-26193851.jpg
Fixed mag and threaded barrel with extension to meet overall length requirements.

Also, if you find a 40 Pro for sale by private party, there is nothing stopping you from purchasing that. Roster is not applicable to private party sales.

FFL ordered CA-legal SKU 90201 and were sent non-mag safety SKU 90301. converted it to a single shot in about 5 minutes. I'd rather have had one w/o mag safety so it worked out in my favor although if i would have known the single shot exemption was so easy, i'd probably have ordered a 9L. oh well.

The only "pro" characteristic on the 4.25" is the trigger job. Other than it's just a regular FS. Cheaper to have those slide laser engraved with "Pro Series".

Mine was converted to single shot.

FFL ordered the CA compliant SKU 109201, distributor sent them SKU 109301. instead of sending it back or ordering another one and having me wait longer, they did the single shot exemption (with my OK of course). took 5 minutes. if i'd have known how easy it was i probably would have had them order a 9L in the first place.

I've got an apex DCAEK sans trigger spring (debating to put the trigger spring or not), and RAM in it. trigger is incredible, i cannot believe how well the RAM works too.

While your .40C isn't on California's Roster of Approved Handguns Certified for Sale....it doesn't make it illegal to have in CA. We all just have to abide by the 10 round limit.

This should answer some of your questions regarding moving here with firearms:

Whoa you move fast! What kind of "full makeover" are you getting from Apex?

From what they emailed me on options I have decided to that Its just going to get the apex level3 trigger job (2.5-3lb trigger pull),seat block housing upgrade, and the RAM. The xdm is going to get sent out first then the m&p, I can't just send it out without have some fun with it!

Will be joined by two compacts (wife wants one) and a threaded barrel kit. Oh, here's a pic of the Pro with the threaded barrel that came in today (lightened up on the post processing):

Thank you for that, I read the entire thing. But still, maybe I missed it... it is legal to own in California, but would I have to re-register it? I bought it from a store and did all the paperwork here in MA, and where I will be in CA will not be permanent. Thanks! And here are some shots of mine.. not very aesthetically pleasing, and somewhat blurry, but I wanted to do some high contrast sort of gritty looking photos

Wish we could have threaded barrels here.

I don't even care about sticking anything on the end of it.

Any specific plans for one vs. the other?

One is for training/range (with Apex parts), the other one is for HD (everything stock). I dont like to mess with the internal parts especially on HD/CCW handgun.

1200 rounds no cleaning? nice! no stoppages at all, i trust?

what sights are you thinking about? i need to work on that too... gonna see how the Ameriglo I-dot Pros turn out on the Glock23 I have coming and maybe just unify around that setup if they are nice.

0 FTF or FTE. I hit the factory points with oil a few times, but that was it. I'm definitely happy it ran without a hitch!

I'm thinking about Dawson Precision fiber front/adjustable rear. This would be the link for the front site...but looks like Dawson's website is down right now.
http://www.dawsonprecision.com/ProductDetail.jsp?LISTID=80000A09-1240607676

Main reason I haven't pulled the trigger on the front/rear sights from Dawson yet is because Daniel @ Dawson was pretty unhelpful when he and I had some email correspondence last week. Only problem is that I haven't found sights from other places I like yet...

Picked up yesterday. Replaced sear housing block for one without mag disconnect and painted rear sights black. Went and shot between 150-200 rounds of factory reloads without a hitch.

Shot 7 rounds without mag in just because I can :)

Ordered a new backstrap last week since I'm too lazy to stipple mine.

I swapped out backstraps today with the Cane & Derby one I bought last week. Went out to the range and put 200 rounds through. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the purchase. While it's only simple stippling, I can really get a good grip now which doesn't slip over time. Would I recommend it to others? Probably not...since it was $32 shipped for a M&P backstrap which was stippled. You guys could all do the same at home, and I could have done the same as well since I have an adjustable temp soldering iron...but I'm too lazy. Some pics below, enjoy!

After 1500 rounds, had my first "problem" with my 9Pro. Front fiber sight has managed to wiggle itself to the left, and that's the excuse I need to replace the sights!
