View Full Version : Who owns a Ruger P-series or maybe a S&W 9mm? Mag question

Which model does this belong to?

All I know is:
1. It's a 9mm (or even a .40S&W)
2. It's a Ruger or a S&W. But I'm almost positive it's a Ruger.
3. It's a high cap magazine. I've had this thing for a long time.

No markings any where on it. I took it to a shop once, and the guy couldn't ID it. I didn't want to try the different magwells for fear it'll get stuck. That wouldn't be cool. I compared it to a couple of magazines he had and it looked like a Ruger, maybe a P85 or a P89

I know it doesn't belong to any of my guns so I might have gotten it in trade with a bunch of other stuff a long time ago and forgotten about it. It's only good for parts. I tried loading it but it would jam the rounds at eight. The spring is strong and covered in original grease. The base is raised plastic with a slight ramp in front.

Once I figure it out, I'm selling it as a kit. If you need a better pic I can take another shot.

It looks like a mag for the S&W 5906,910,915 etc. That S&W family of 9mm.
I think its for a 915. My brother had a 5906 and still has one mag from it and it looks pretty much like the one you have in the pic except the holes are placed a lil different. But the indents and floor plate and feed lips look exactly alike!

The mag catch hole is in the front, so it's a Ruger.

Someone PM'd me to try .40S&W. It loaded without any problems. Ten rounds was easy. Eleven rounds fit but was a struggle. I had to use my HK Loader.

Most 9mm high caps will load 40 S&W. What you have there is an aftermarket Ruger magazine, which means you really need to function test it by shooting with it. Most aftermarket Ruger mags for all of the Ruger firearms suck. MecGar excluded.

+1 on it being a Ruger as the mag catch is the hole in the front. Not sure other than that. Good Luck!

FYI, the top shape of older Ruger and S&W 9mm mags is the same.
You can add the appropriate cutouts to either one and they will be interchangeable.

You have an oddity there.
The baseplate appears to be of S&W type (rectangular notch on base plate)
But the mag release cut out (cut out in front of mag body) says ruger...
I would hazard a guess that it is an older aftermarket Ruger mag in 40S&W.

Just FYI, a 9mm ruger mag will hold 11 rounds of 40S&W but might have issues feeding due to mag lip width.
A 40S&W ruger mag will typically hold 14-15 rounds of 9mm but the feed lips usually wont retain the bullets if you shake the mag pretty well.

I am heavily vested in Ruger and own some S&W mags for a keltek... I get them mixed up while pulling them out of my mag box all the time.

It's for a P89,93,94 95 Ruger pistol.

That is an aftermarket mag for a Ruger, it looks just like the ones I have for my P95DC. Probably a 9mm, will fit any of the P-series Rugers: P89, P95, etc.
