With the new Legislative season upon us and so many new Calgunners out amongst us I thought I'd make an attempt to outline how to go about researching, responding and contacting your Representative in Sacramento.

Remember he or she works for you. Even though you may be soft spoken and not very outgoing or not into politics, you have to find it somewhere in your psyche to don the nature of a predator. One of the first things you'll need to do is find out who your Reps are for your home address, check your phone book or go to the sites below and click on the District maps (http://www.legislature.ca.gov/legislators_and_districts/districts/assemblydistricts.html). Yes the Districts (http://www.legislature.ca.gov/legislators_and_districts/districts/assemblydistricts.html) do look odd, its called Gerrymandering (http://geography.about.com/od/politicalgeography/a/gerrymandering.htm).
--------------------
Here you can search and research upcoming Bills from both the California Senate & the Assembly http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/bilinfo.html
---------------------
This is the California state Senate site. We have 39 Senators and 1 vacancy (any takers? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California%27s_26th_State_Senate_district)) each one represents 846,791 Californians. You need to be the loudset one he/she hears. From here you can access Audio (http://www.senate.ca.gov/%7Enewsen/audiotv/audiotv.htp)and listen to what they are discussing in real time. We do this to great effect.

---------------------
This is the California State Assembly site. Here you can find your Representative and become his or her loudest squeaking wheel. Contact information is on the Assembly roster. Find yours and try it out, tell'em you are watching, just joined Calguns.net and its a hoot with a lot of really nice people.

--------------------

And if a Bill gets passed that you would like to see implemented or Vetoed, this is the Governors site. His staff will keep a yay or nay tally of those who call, write or email requesting the Governor sign or veto legislation passed and waiting for his action. I go to the Issues page and start there for Bills.

--------------------

This is the California Law site http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html
We'll most likely be dealing more with the Penal Code than anything else, its here http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/calawquery?codesection=pen&codebody=&hits=20
-------------------
This will give you the Legislative process and how an idea becomes Law http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/bil2lawx.html

----------------------
This is the Daily File, it has Order of Business, the tentative schedule for the entire legislative session, the bills that are scheduled to be heard on the floor and during committee hearings. http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/dayfile.html
---------------------
When a Bill comes up, we as California gun enthusiasts want to address, we need to call, write and email often and loudly. The politickers have a habit of incrementally taking things from us by segregating or isolating us from each other. Ex; I don't duck hunt so whatever they do to the duck hunters does not matter to me. I'm a slow bolt guy so whatever they do to outlaw or restrict AK or AR type rifles has no affect on me.
I only shoot revolvers so limiting rounds in a semi-auto means nothing to me. Or I don't hunt so I don't pay attention to restrictions placed on the hunting industry. I have the only 2 guns I'll ever need so it matters not if the lawmakers restrict how many and what type of guns individuals may have.

Everything they do affects ALL of us.

Find your Reps and say Hello.
Look around the Calif Gov sites and get comfortable looking at searching and reading Bills as well as California Law.

It really is a hoot to be part of the process.

Thanks for the links. I found my assembly and senate reps, and emails them both about AB357 (makes California a Shall Issue state). I URGE everyone else to do the same.
