Don't toss your NRA magazine- if you are qualified to vote, your ballot is in there! How would you know about this? Are you a NRA member? If so, are you ashamed of it? If not, why don't you show your colors? http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=81182

:p

LOL!

But seriously, AM, thanks for the "heads up." I look forward to Mike, or maybe even Paul, giving at least me some guidance re. who are the best picks this year for CA and the rest of the nation. We'll need the strongest and most politically sophisticated Board we can get for at least the next four years.

Are we talking about the "NRA/ILA 2009 Truth About Gun Owners (Tag) Poll" that arrived in my mailbox yesterday?

I've never actually voted an NRA ballet.
Maybe it's time.
Who does Calguns support and endorse?

The only name I recognize is Ronnie Barrett. It seems to me that we could support him, as he has supported us in California with his attitude to the .50 cal ban.

I haven't read any of the others' statements, so maybe I'dd add a few based on them, but Ill also take posts in this thread into account.

I have the Feb. and Mar. editions, but I don't see the ballot. What month are you looking at?

HunterJim
02-19-2009, 08:57 AM
It is the March 2009 edition of American Rifleman.

I am voting for Owen (Buz) Mills the owner of Gunsite and Ronnie Barrett the owner of Barrett Arms.

The two guys from California are not helpful to the cause as the libs say, and the Nominating Committee likes them because they will not rock the boat. The famous names on the ballot have a track record of not going to meetings, mostly they have their names held up for PR purposes.

When all is said and voted the Board is about useless when it comes to actually running the NRA. A clique of insiders takes care of that, and no one from outside need apply.

Sorry, but true.

Joel Friedman isn't on my ballot sheet. Is he standing as a write-in? Or just not due for reelection?

Then he must've been elected in last cycle and is not standing for election this cycle, I don't have ballot at hand.

My comment was more that the 3 CA board members I've met - Manny, Joel, and Tom - absolutely rock, and we are we'll represented with them backing Ed & Paul in Sacramento.

These are the guys I'm interested in :

Scott Bach is getting props on ARFCOM, http://www.bachbio.com/

Owen Buzz Mills, as mentioned above, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zorWYFCeNHc

Ronnie Barett, of course.

John Millius, of Red Dawn fame.

John Brutt, of the FCSA, maybe CSACANNONEER can give more info.

Yes, not only do you not have to vote for the full quota of 26 names, you should definitely not do so, unless you know 26 of these guys well enough to know that they are each better than the other 4.

Probably easier to ask who NOT to vote for.

31 Names, Vote for no more that 26.

Don't only Life Members receive ballots ? Maybe why some are getting them.

the trick is, if you vote for 26, your votes have less power than those who only vote for, say 5. And we are trying to determine who believe in the second amendment, not just "parts" of it. We don't want any FUDDs. For instance, I see Richard Childress, of RCR Nascar fame, listed on the ballot. I know he's a big hunter. On many occasions, he's been on big hunts (africa?) when his teams are racing. But does he only beleive in the Hunting version of the 2nd, or does he beleive in the true meaning? I dunno.

Don't only Life Members receive ballots ? Maybe why some are getting them.Life members or greater receive ballots, and any regular members with 5 consecutive years of membership.

Nope, not a life member and I have a ballet. I don't know if life members get to vote right away, but us non life members have to wait a few years before we can vote. I don't know the exact time frame. would have to dig out a by law book from some where.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

My name is Joe DeBergalis and I am a candidate for the 2009 NRA Board of Directors.

I am writing to personally ask those here for the consideration of their vote this election cycle. I am neither a celebrity, nor a firearms industry mogul. What I do bring is a strong record of Second Amendment advocacy and record of success in grassroots leadership.

As an Election Volunteer Coordinator of eight New York Congressional Districts and the District of Columbia, I know first hand that the strength of the NRA lies with its growing membership.

As a long time Benefactor Life Member of the NRA, I also know that we need to incorporate together our desire to ensure our freedom to keep and bear firearms or it will surely be taken from us.

I am a Life Member of the California Rifle and Pistol Association and proud supporter of the most worthwhile "Project Bore Snake." I am endorsed by many fine organizations such as the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association, the Georgia Shorting Sports Association, the Georgians for the Second Amendment and AR15.com among others....

I invite all that my be interested in my background to visit either www.nysrpa.org and click on my banner or review my qualifications at AR15.com.

Thank you for your consideration.....

I'll second him. Lived here in CA for a long time. Still active in fighting anti gun laws. He has helped me here in CA in clarifying laws about out of state shooters bringing in their 50BMG's for matches this year. Heads the Fifty Caliber Institute. He is a fighter, active and on our side!

Nominations are due in a little over a month and I haven't filled out my ballot yet so I thought I'd bump this thread. Joel Friedman is not up this year and Milius is a shoe-in (probably Barrett too), so anyone else with knowledge beyond what's in the magazine statements have an opinion?

"From Black Powder to Black Rifles-Your Candidate for NRA Board of Directors"I like this guy's motto!

I was over at http://www.ar15.com/ and they give DeBergalis and George K. Kollitides a very strong endorsement for being pro-Homeland Defense/Sport Utility Rifle guys. We can't be so CA-centric that we ignore excellent candidates from other states. This is the NRA's, not CalNRA's board we are electing.

("Surprise" to all you guys who thought I only cared about "Shall Issue" CCW. :D)

The NRA must receive the ballots by 26 April 2009 for them to be counted.

I'm trying not to break the 1,000 posts mark until after Nordyke ("two weeks" acc to Gene), but this thread is too important not to bump with a post.

Ballots must ARRIVE -- not be postmarked -- in McLean, VA, by Sunday, April 26th. And don't forget to sign the back of the envelope.

Better to have Calgunners' ballots arrive a few days early rather than be one day late and not counted.
