I am looking for a good 338 WInchester Magnum. Not including the 50s and 460s would this be a good choice for long range target practice?

I am looking at the Browning Safari, is this a good rifle?

How far do you want to shoot?

IMHO, It's probably one of the worst choices for long range shooting. There's way too much recoil for the 1,000 yard distances and marginal power for the mile+ matches.

:iagree: The recoil is brutal. If you want something in 338, take a look at the 338 Laupa for long range shooting. And welcome to calguns.

Those BAR's don't really group that well, I have a 7mm. My dad's winchester Model 70 is way more accurate. I picked up a Ruger #1 in 338 win. And it is a beast. After 10 rounds, you will be done. IT However is a KILLER, ELK,and Larger game round. If you are just shooting at gongs at 500-1000 yds go with the 300 mag.
