Wow. Had to post, I have a lefty 788 in 308 too. It's an amazingly accurate rifle and boy was I happy to find it for a lefty. Plus, they were ahead of their time. Lots of sniperish rifles today have the whole detachable magazine thing too. Good luck with the sale.

Don't know much about these rifles. It's certainly nice-looking. Is it more than 50 years old and thus eligible for FTF transfer?

I have a few 788's that I've collected over the years and the action is better than the 700, IMHO. These are the most accurate "hunting" guns out of the box and were discontinued because they were too expensive to make, for what they were being sold for. I had a gunsmith buddy make a 308 and a 223 accept a detatchable 20rd M1a mag and an AR mag, after I saw one at a gunshow. Lots of fun with that setup.

The features they ave over more expensive guns are a heavy solid collar around the bolt face, it uses 9 locking lugs on the bolt for the best lockup and it's very easy to true up the action for an absolute tack driver. Plus it was a very inexpensive rifle for the quality you get. Great gun that's super accurate and really well made.

Great rifles, Have very short lock times so were popular bases for target rifles. I had one just like it in the early 70's. Killed my first bear with it.
