Is CLFC involved when a firearm is returned to the factory, via a dealer, for warranty repairs?

This appears to be unaddressed in DOJ CFLC FAQ ( http://www.caag.state.ca.us/firearms/cflcfaqs.php )

The language of CFLC does indeed include wording, "... deliver, sell or transfer..." applicable to CA FFLs. Unless otherwise clarified, in my mind it appears "deliver" would likely encompass the act of returning your own gunsmithed/repaired firearm to you at the CA FFL, and thus a CFLC dance would be required by the repair shop.

(see http://www.caag.state.ca.us/firearms/forms/pdf/PC12072.pdf for actual law)

However, just because the firearm was shipped from CA FFL to the repair center or gunsmith does not mean alternate arrangements cannot be made to deliver directly to you ... it IS your own firearm, and nothing in CFLC or other CA or Fed gun laws prevents an ordinary (non-AW) firearm from being returned to its California owner directly from any FFL (i.e, gunsmith, factory repair center, etc.).

Would this apply to loaned guns as well? Can my father ship a rifle back to me if I loaned it to him on a hunting trip and I left before he was done with it?

Remember, CFLC really only applies to interactions with/thru/between CA FFLs and other FFLs.

But you can send/receive your gun to, say, Ruger in Connecticut without CFLC dance.

Your dad returning your firearm to you is fine as far as CFLC goes.
